I wonder how many babies will be born as a result of the toque de queda ? With no money for anything else and unable to stay out late or work until you are too tired for sex - maybe people are exercising their "Special Purpose"

That's what I've been expecting too 😂

Pretty sure we will see a "lockdown induced" baby boom in 2021, not just in DR but worldwide!

I guess the governments of the world want all businesses to fail and we all eat grass. I just contacted a friend who was coming with two others on the 20th, told them this BS and they are canceling their trip which was for a month. Cancel the villa they were to rent in Hispanola and the $150 a day each approx they spend per day and rebt-a-car
Screw this nonsense. Time to defy the orders.
Tourism is officially ended for DR.
Well the new motto from the World Economic Forum for the year 2030 is: "You'll own nothing, and you'll be happy".

I guess we are heading there. Own nothing and be happy!

Some are facing CV19 fatigue, I see.

I do understand.
Many are. But I'm not so frustrated over the bug as the lousy response to it. How hard is it to wear a damn mask, wash your hands, and keep your distance? There's a cohort out there who are determined to confuse irresponsible behavior (like not wearing a mask in public or buildings that require them) with some misplaced sense of "freedom."

We all want to get back in the DR. I was looking forward to spend the holidays in Las Terrenas with my family. But stupid people being irresponsible and pretending the bug is "no big deal" led to yet-another a flare-up of the bug, and now it's not safe to travel. Again.

Well, the bug, and science in general, doesn't really care about what you "think." We have folks on this board who have almost died from this thing. I have a family member who DID die from it.

So, you can prognosticate all you want about levels of severity. In the US, 300k people are dead from this thing, millions more have been stricken. Some people are asymptomatic, others will have permanent organ damage. Much of this can be avoided by wearing your damn mask and observing social distancing.

In the DR, the curfew has just been shortened because of well-grounded concerns about the bug spreading. Until there's a readily-available vaccine, we all need to exercise caution for ourselves, and for each other.

Actually, the curfew has been lengthened just within the last few days.
Just sayin'. ;)

Im going to Puerto Plata and santo domingo from dec. 25 to mid January.
I can still cancel my trip with no penalty. Should i do it???
Wondering if its really worth going to DR with all these new restrictions. I don't fear covid, i just dont like vacation killing restrictions.

You will have a better time than where you are at, restrictions or no.
Come on down here!

308k deaths, and counting.

Every day, we lose more people than were killed at Pearl Harbor.

Over 17M people sick, and counting. I do not know how many of those are mild or asymptomatic cases, and how many have long-term damage.
These four words just about sums it up.

AI resorts are probably OK, are you going to one? They would have fewer restriction on the grounds of the resorts for now.

?

Two days ago, it was dropped back to 7p-5a, every day. There's a "no arrest" buffer for two hours after curfew to give people time to get home, but the country shuts more or less shuts down an hour or so after sunset. How is that a "lengthening?"

I really think it will be better here. Especially if you're in an AI for any of the time. Even if not, 9PM isn't that unreasonable.

Seriously, whatever you can think of coming and enjoying between the hours of 7/9pm until 5am, can also be accomplished between the hours of 5am until 7/9pm.
If you are in a place with 10 inches of snow right now, it is sort of a no brainer.

Not really. It will be unknown for some time, as the shakeout from the bug is still ongoing.

What MATTERS, is that it's highly contagious, can do serious harm to people, and that both of those can be substantially mitigated with some common-sense measures. Wear your mask. Wash your hands. And keep your distance.

It ain't that hard, and it works wonders.

Not nationwide.
Different hours for different sectores/municipales/ciudades/provincias, and enforcement of such is selective. Dig deeper.
If you were actually here right now, as I am, you would understand this clearly.
Please leave the former Off Topic rhetoric there where it belonged. Sheesh, some people.
Any visitor coming here right now will have a better time than where they are coming from.

The question isn't "can you have fun within quarantine?" Obviously, the answer is yes. The beach is nice all day long, and a cuba libre tastes the same regardless of when you drink it.

The real question is, "If the government is increasing restrictions because the bug is on the rise, is it sensible to put myself and my family at risk for some beach time?" That's an individual choice.

After that's it's about personal responsibility, which should go hand in hand with "freedom." Wear a mask, wash your hands, and keep your distance.

You do realize.. that most of these deaths are people over 80 years old with serious preexisting conditions that would have died in the short term anyway right?

Not that they don't matter, it's just very important to put these figures in appropriate perspective.

Also, sick and asymptomatic are 2 different things. You probably meant 17M cases and most covid cases are asymptomatic (i.e. NOT sick). Just infected.

If you feel safer in your birth nation during these supposed trying times, stay there.
I am enjoying my time here this Navidad in mine, as always.

If you will be coming down and visiting with family, all of you will be safe and sound within the cozy confines of an All-Inclusive.
Or, will you be doing a single man travel special?

Really? How many tourists do you think are headed to SPM, man? You're trying to be right, instead of discussing the point head on.

DR 1990 specifically mentioned SD and the Puerto Plata area, both of which are impacted by the new restrictions.

Anyway, tired of this. Happy holidays.

DR 1990, hope you have fun if you come, please stay safe.

I see you miss your moderator hat. No troubles.
As far as SPM, I could not tell you, as right now I am in Romana, and preparing to head to Barahona for a period of time. Some day you should leave your comforts of Sosua, and see the real RD.
Enjoy your holiday season fella.

No, I meant what I said. "sick" and "asymptomatic" only pertain to YOU. You can be either of those things, and still infect others. It's actually worse if you're asymptomatic, because you're not even aware you're exposing others.

My aunt was 65 and had pre-existing conditions. Are you suggesting I'd share with the family that, "well, she would've died soon, anyway?"

Anyway, the most dangerous thing about the bug, again, is how easily it is transmitted. Hopefully it doesn't find it's way to someone vulnerable that you care about because of the careless actions of someone more interested in their so-called "freedom" to walk around without a mask and with dirty-ass hands.

Please be very careful about your trip. You're heading into two parts of the country which are expected to really get hit by the bug.

Not one bit. It was a good move to shut down OT, as it had been taken over by the worst people on the board. Hope you're doing well, btw.

Too funny. Deeply inaccurate, but still amusing as always, I see.
Enjoy your holiday season fella.
You, too, buddy.
