That's more or less why I don't care for the town anymore either. If it weren't for all of the friends I have who live up there, I probably wouldn't go more than two or three times a year.
Well, they are trying to make Sosua great again. What they don't realize is that once a part of the world loses it charm, it does not return. So good luck with that. They had best set their sites on the expat condo owners since those numbers are increasing daily on the north coast. Them and Dominicans that come on the weekends from Santiago and Santo Domingo by bus.

Two days ago I saw a Cruise Ship Tour Bus depositing a busload of tourists to go down to Sosua beach from the main road AND people were still working at both end plazas. A miraculously day that was. Progress and some short term tourist/cruisers.

Greetings! I have not visited the area in five years but planning a trip with my partner in January. Reading the last page or so of entries, I can't tell is the beach basically open? Are all the old vendors gone? Does it still have the "charm" it had a few years ago? What is the current status for those wanting to see Sosua Beach?

Most of the vendors have been removed from the Charamicos side of the beach. The rest are still operating.

Chicas, music, food, drinks with a sprinkle of drama are still the norm although you may experience a little sticker shock when you see the current prices which are more than double what they were 5 years ago and this applies to everything.

- Yes, it's open
- half of them, removed on Charamicos side only
- still has the charm
- nothing has changed, beach still as usual
- the only thing has changed: prices; higher than 5 years ago here and nationwide.

That would be why they were pouring concrete all day yesterday.
This is a good thing.
Without trying to sound sly, I could have sworn I read that here on DR1
when Sosua was mentioned in another thread recently but I could be wrong..

The land between the plazas is privately ownd. The owners can build what the government will allow to be built, and since the very same owners donated their own land for the two plazas that the government is continuing to build, I suspect they will build whatever they please. I expected it would be condos from day one.

You are right, it was mentioned here in another thread.
@Tug7777 If you are in Sosua, do you mind having a chat with the casita owners and post what they say ?
I know a few of them. The last time I spoke with Manny (owner of 108 Valero who is a good friend of mine) was back in February. He told me they really aren't sure how much longer they would be able to remain open but that he felt it would be at least another year.

Truth be told I don't think anyone really knows.

Agree and sadly anybody literally includes the corrupt and dysfunctional government as well.
Regarding the local government, I think Willy is going to continue playing both sides of the coin for as long as he can. It's no secret he just poured a ton of money into re-doing the biggest club on PC which will cater to the exact same crowd (mongers and prostitutes) Toursim Minister David Collado and several local community organizations want to get rid of.

How all of this pans out will be very interesting over the next couple of years because according to the most recent poll numbers, Mr. Collado is favored to be our next President in 2028.

With this in mind, judging by his past comments, I'd say Sosua as we've always known it will eventually come to an end if/ when he gets into office.

You mean one small part of Sosua which is called Pedro Clisante will be different than it has been. Sosua is far bigger than just that one small, yet highly visible, area. I hope even that one street does get better.

I would probably vote for David C in the next election.

Which club would that be?

Think it was called Merenge Bar not sure if will be called something else once the construction is complete.
It has been a few years (looking at the dates the last time was in 2022) the last time I was there I visited Meringue every evening for a drink - had the place to myself mostly, almost nobody came in. The disco upstairs (classicos?) was closed. Has it ever reopened? The place was a shadow of itself from when I had first visited.
