I'm sure there were witnesses. But really, who was going to step up and help when the thieves were armed?

you do have a great point there. however, Dominicans are not reputed for their willingness to come to the rescue of foreigners who find themselves in dire circumstances. i posted before that when i am in the USA, and i go stepping, i feel safe with a Puerto Rican. i know that if another boricua tries to break off something, the one i am with will have my back, even against a fellow PR. a Dominican will side with his fellow Dominican, always. that is why i never go anywhere with them, at any time, neither here, nor in the States. i got attacked by a crazed guy with a machete one night, and all the Dominicans who call themselves 'my freng", just stood with folded arms, watching this guy try to make me into rotti con hueso. not one lifted a straw. i guess they thought it would have been a betrayal of the national flag if they had sided with me instead of their fellow Dominican. that is why a chica will watch a Dominican rip off the gringo who tries to be generous to her. it is some national thing. i see it, every day.

go ask ANY DENTIST

I would feel a bit stupid asking such a ridiculous question. Why don't you pop in and see one, and maybe make an appointment to catchup with your doctor while you're at it. Things are going a little LSD Annie, catch it before it goes further.

I see your point.

my buddy is a guy with a heart as big as all outdoors. he came on vacation from the US to visit this girl , with whom he was smitten. she was whoring around like a cat in heat, and he caught her, dead to rights. the groundsman at the condo where he stayed knew about her conduct, but even though my friend always brings him stuff whenever he comes, and regularly tunes up his pocket, he did not let my friend on to any info. when my buddy asked him why he stood by and watched this girl use him up, watchiman let him know that she was his fellow Dominican, so he could not let her down.

"DOG" it's EASY!
You just have to think like "Annie'.
DOGS ARE "CANINES",Dogs have "Canine Teeth", therefor, all of a dogs teeth are "Canine Teeth"!
Humans also have teeth. We also have "Canine" teeth, but they are NOT all "Canine Teeth, as with a dog's teeth.
Sooo only our "Canine Teeth" are "Canine Teeth.
The rest, including OUR canine teeth, are "Human Teeth"!
Right Annie???????????????????????? :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

This robbery is what we call in The DR " Ubicao". Basically an inside job...some "friends" of the gringos are taking them around while texting their friends that these Dr's are loaded and have I-Pads, expensive cameras, watches, etc with them and being Mormon Dr's they will be easy pickings....which they were.

Don't let MA read this, she claims this was a mob hit from Sociedad Odontologia.
The robbery occurred in front of The Mormon Church, you are you assuming they are Mormon's?

MA, the teeth stop growing by the late teens, maybe early twenty. and this is it, no more. certainly they do not continue to grow after other teeth have been removed, on the contrary, a gap the in jaw causes other roots to start moving and eventually the loss of more teeth. the "growth" of maxillary canines you might have seen in haiti was likely caused by severe malnutrition and infections that cause the gums to recede and hence give the impression of longer teeth.
thank you.

I guess I did a$$ume due to the fact that they're from Utah and were going to the Mormon church when this happened...if it quacks like a duck...

Here's their website Home

Twice a year, 10-20 third and forth year dental students from various dental schools volunteer for one week to provide dental care with dentists from the G3 Foundation to underserved people.

From their website...maybe their senator friend was the Dominican contact that gave them away :cheeky::cheeky::cheeky::

Our most recent trip to the Dominican Republic was in January 2012.

G3 Foundation dentists from Utah, California, Idaho, Nevada and the Dominican Republic were joined by students from Case Western Reserve University Dental School, and several assistants and volunteers.

Included in our group this trip were several physicians who were able to provide medical care and much needed medicine in each area we visited.

Work was done in three areas of the Capital City of Santo Domingo with the help of Senator Reinaldo Perez.

We then traveled to the community of La Vega where we worked for a day with Padre Regelio Cruz at his Catholic church.

Our last day we traveled with Padre Cruz 30 miles into the mountains to the small community of Manabao and were able to treat many people who had not seen the dentist in years or ever.

The G3 Foundation would like to thank all those who helped to make this trip a succesful one!

They were specifically visiting the Mormon temple, according to the Listin Diario article. Not sure that makes them Mormons but it's a good possibility.

It is also an embarrasment for DR. That said, it wasn't a big deal. I don't even know how this makes news at all. A bunch of gringos walking on a pretty deserted street at 9pm, holding cameras and about US$3,000 in cash. They got robbed. Oh god. If they weren't gringos we wouldn't even know about it...

Nitpick - the US$3,000 was not in cash, it was the value of the stolen camera:
List?n Diario said:
?Uno de ellos me puso la pistola en mi cabeza y me dijo que te mato si no me das los relojes, los ipad, las tarjetas, dinero, anillos y yo le dije que no, que de nosotros no tendr? nada, pero hab?a otro muchacho que no vimos atr?s del grupo y comenz? a quitar las mochilas y rob? una c?mara de tres mil d?lares y los otros objetos?, narr? Ken Dibble, uno de los afectados.

Here it is in English, from today's DR1 news:
US doctors robbed in Santo Domingo
Twenty visiting doctors on a medical mission from the US were robbed by two men on motorbikes at the corner of Maximo Gomez and Bolivar avenues in Santo Domingo yesterday, Tuesday 22 January, as reported in Listin Diario.
The doctors, who are in the country to provide dental work for poor patients, via the office of the National District Senator, Reinaldo Pared Perez, had left their hotel for a stroll at around 9pm. When the first group was walking near the corner with Maximo Gomez avenue, one of the assailants got off his bike, pistol in hand and told them to hand over all they had.
One of the doctors in the first group, Ken Dibble from the University of Utah G3 Medical Foundation, said that they put a gun to his head and told him to hand over his watch, iPad, credit cards, money and rings and that he said he had none of those, but another member of the group had to hand over a US$3,000 camera and his backpack.
He said that one member of his group screamed and a security officer appeared, and the men fled, but then they saw the other group and robbed them too.
Dibble said that they had reported the incident to the National Police, but pointed out that they were sticking to the rules in that they were not out alone, they were in a group, and it wasn't very late, only 9pm. He regretted the incident as they had been coming to the country for ten years and nothing like that had ever happened before. They were just here to give humanitarian aid. He finished by saying events like this happened everywhere, including in New York.

i did not read your posting, and my friend and i came to the same conclusion. some guy set himself up as a " freng" of these people, then watched their movements, and reported back to the gangstas. this was a set up, pure and simple.
