Be interesting to know what land is holding it up. Since it's a bridge replacement it would seem they would already have all of the easement and land rights from before assuming they do that in the DR. It's not like there are any buildings right on the river and the new bridge design didn't make it seem like it would be that much wider that buildings would need to come down but perhaps they do need some more space. But in any case that certainly should have been take care of before construction started.

Although this is the DR and sometimes what makes sense doesn't happen

Perhaps it's all an excuse because they know there is no possibility this bridge will get completed in the proposed time frame so they throw out a "land dispute" as the reason for the delays.

So what get's completed first

A. The bridge
B. The plazas at Playa Sosua
C. The new hospital
D. Delay upon delay won't see any of them completed anytime soon.

I know what my answer is.
But I am not a DR1 "expert" and have no inside information either.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

But aren't you a big proponent of private property rights?
Sure - but ROW always prevails in court. So drive your hardest bargain for price but you have to cut your losses before a judge decides the value.
I had a sewer easement put through my property in an alley behind my house that was there when I bought the house (but I owned the ground) without them paying.

I sent them a letter and told them what they owed and they first declined and said they could take it under condemnation.
I wrote back and told them the can not take land under condemnation with process abd6I was going to sue and raised the price by 50% over my 1st price.

Took 2 days to get the check and my higher figure.

I took the detour for the first time on Monday. It wasn't too bad. It took about an extra ten minutes. What they have apparently done is, for the most part, use two different streets with each one "one way" traffic. I only remember a couple stretches where the road was two way traffic. The detour isn't marked all that well. There were a couple intersections where, if i hadn't just been following traffic, I could have turned the wrong way. I wouldn't want to do it late at night - not for the first time anyway.

Did you notice all the garbage along the route? It's a disgrace that the tour buses full of tourists have to go through that. This country lacks education is so many ways.

Don't forget about the new police station which is also being held up in court because of the land dispute between PN and Playero.

Where did you get that idea?

I might be, but when it comes to my getting to Puerto Plata faster, I am not at all with regards to those small pieces of land if they are needed.
I am a far bigger proponent of what is good for me.

Bridge at Congrejo,Plaza on Sosua Beach, Police Station and Hospital in that order. I had no idea Playero was in the middle of the Police station issue.

With everything up north turning into a hornets nest, maybe that's the underlying reason they never want to do anything up there.

Some of you long time residents on the north coast should try reaching out to Fabio Garcia @ Destrás Del Rumor and ask him to look into it.

Fabio normally gets into those things on his own. Not sure how he could actually help.

As for replacing an existing bridge, why does the new one need more land?

Don't think so, it is about the north coast in the Cabarete/Sosua are is being out of sight and out of mind when it comes to revenue. The neglected bastard child.
The only focus from Santo Domingo has been to try and diminish the negative effects emanating from Sosua.

Lol. With the detour actually being driveable I honestly don't think that it will be finished in a couple of years, there's currently no incentive for them to actually finish it any time soon.... Sigh.. Well I'm out of here in July if only for about 2 months, but it's going to be AMAZING..

The bridge could have been replaced in 6 weeks of construction (not years) with an in kind design, which was fine. They could have hired a bridge crew to come in first, survey and then send the pieces down to assemble a superstructure bridge, while they were pouring new abutments.
Same stile they had before and boom - another 80 years of service

There are people from Cangrejo saying that the new bridge will have four lanes and for that reason they need more space....
Sure enough i guess you would know something like that before you start the work and fix it...

LoL, I remember a few years ago when they announced that they would broaden the entire north coast road and on all the posters there were pictures of 4 lanes. What did they do? Nothing, they broaden the road on parts of it, for example in La union, close to the airport, but nothing else. So building that bridge 4 lanes, yeah right 🤣

I wondered about the 4 lane possibility. There was a plan for the highway between Puerto Plata and Sosua to be widened to 4 lanes and that bridge would be a bottleneck (among other spots) if that is ever done. So 4 lanes for the bridge does makes sense. Eminent domain?

Even if the land need for the extra lanes is in a title dispute...the DRGOV could simply put the compensation money in escrow while using eminent domain now to take the land and build on it.
