Some of those rates don't make sense. 200 to Santo Domingo, but 185 to San Cristobol. You can't get to San Cristobol without going THROUGH SD, and then it's at least another 20 minutes from there. Bani only 10 more than SD, and it's probably close to an hour further, past San Cristobol.

Taxi rate from pop to sun village hotel?

I looked up Sun Village Hotel and it's located in Cofresi. If you look at the rates posted in a previous post, it will be US$45. That's 1,600 pesos for a 25 minute ride.
That's a lot of money !! Wow..

May seem a lot but relative to the cost of gas in the DR, it seems pretty relative.
A 25 minute metered taxi ride in any North American city would run one more than that.
I live 10 mins from my local international airport and that is $40 flat rate.

It is a lot of money- It's extortion !

In Santiago, I can easily get a cab for 1,700-1,800 pesos to Sosua. From STI to the center (20-30 minutes), it's about 600 pesos (can be had for 500, too). In SD, a cab ride from the airport to SD is running about 1,200 pesos and can be had for even less (800-900 pesos) if you go to the departure area.

Aren't most taxis in the North Coast using propane gas instead of regular fuel ? I know most Cabarete Taxi cars use propane gas ! They're very flexible with rates !

Actually a 25 metered ride in NY would be less than $45. Even JFK-Manhattan is $45 without tolls !

I'm glad there are options in POP (departure area, and concho to the main ave. and then guagua or publico at a set rate to destination) because paying those sucker prices is ridiculous.

The best part is, many people have started using alternate forms of transportation, due to the ridiculous prices of the taxi unions. Now the unions say they need to raise prices because they have lost business! go figure.

And for the record I love taking the public transportation from Sosua to Puerto Plata, which you should know is very uncomfortable...but very interesting.

(POP to Sosua) I wouldn't mind taking a bus or jumping in a passenger van/shuttle from the airport. Is this even an option? If anyone knows, please share!

At the airport, just either walk to the main road or take a motoconcho to the road, where all the guaguas and taxi publico run. I wouldn't use the guagua as an option, because of space constraints. It's better to get a carro publico and pay for two seats in the front. I wouldn't do that at night, though ! Being in the main road and waiting for a ride.

Los carro publicos come in to the airport just before the airport gate, I took one yesterday!!!!

What might the rate be for an afternoon trip from Blackbeards to Sosua, stay for a few hours and then return with a stopover at FOD for about an hour using the same driver? Also, anyone who can recommend a good driver would be appreciated.
