Cabarete
A few places that I have been to recently that are worth a mention:
The pizzeria at the Food Carts opposite Coconut Palms. This is owned by the same guy that used to own Pomodoros on Cabarete Beach many years ago. Awesome pizza and as good as La Ceiba (which is my favorite pizzeria on the island). Also the burgers at Salt Marina in the same location is good.
Le Bistro on the walkway to Cabarete beach (just before Pomodoros) is fantastic.
Front Loop restaurant at Le Reef condos (next to Hotel Taino) is a great place to relax on the beach and the food is pretty good.
You can't go wrong with the food at Mojitos on Cabarete Beach. really nice Mofongo and the Mojitos are the best in the area.
I go to Nelsons and Margots in Sosua on a regular basis and both are still very good.
La Cocina de Yanet at the entrance to La Mulata is also quite good.
Just went to Voramar hotel in Playa Chiquita, Sosua, for dinner last week, it was really good.
Taberna el Conde is still good, epsecially the Friday night pie night...get there early as the sell out fast.
For cheap but good Italian food the Elefante Rosso on Pedro Clisante is worth visiting. It is however located in what I call 'the belly of the beast' (the center of Sosua nightlife).
Casa 21 is still one of the best places around.
In Puerto Plata there is now a really good Indian restaurant called Taste of India. They started off as delivery service only but now have a beautiful restaurant and the food is awesome.
Also in Puerto Plata is Latin Wok at the Sunshine Hotel. Great food but the restaurant is quite small so limited seating. They are going to add a second floor which will be good. Really good Asian food.
There is no lack of good restaurants in our area, everyone's opinions will differ on the ones mentioned above but these are just some of my favorites.

Tom, totally agree!...go and try the Chinese restaurant in Puerto Plata. A Taste of India is my favorite restaurant in Puerto Plata but the Chines place, Latin Wok, come a close second. Located in the Sunshine Hotel (Google it). Buen provecho!

I'm sure he was betting on there being a number of persons going through the same issues as he was and they would welcome an alcohol-free social atmosphere.
If he shut it down after a couple of days he clearly didn't give it enough time to flourish.

As mentioned, the Chinese restaurant, Latin Wok is inside the Sunshine hotel and it is best to Google it to give you a better idea of the location. It is on the Av. Manolo Tavarez, close to Nissan Dominicana and Apolo Motors. It is a bit of a pain as you have to go all the way up to the hospital and then turn around and come back down as there is nowhere to turn. A Taste of India is easier to describe the location. Go past the court house down the Av. Luis Ginebra and it is a little bit after the Pizza Hut on the same side of the road. Try them both, hopefully you will enjoy them as much as we did.

Danny's experiment across from the Casino in Sosua lasted three days? One more than I would have guessed.

Thanks, Tee for the tips on the Chinese and Indian restaurants. I lived in what people used to call New New Delhi in California and have not had a
good Indian meal outside that other select spots in the US since 2003. Certainly nothing remotely as good so far in the DR. Hopefully the one in POP will satisfy.

I went there with a group of 12 people, 4 of which, including myself, are English. In England most people are practically raised on Indian food and many households have a curry once every 1 or 2 weeks. All 4 of us were impressed, the flavors are exactly as they should be. Onion Bhaji's are really nice, as are the Samosas. The main dishes were all excellent, most of us had different main dishes. I actually had the lamb curry, the flavor was incredible although there was not that much meat so maybe stay away from that dish but everything else we had was awesome. As for the Chinese place, the won tons, dumplings (steamed and fried), and spring rolls were awesome. I had the mixed Lo Mein with was delicious. Two fantastic choices in POP, make sure to try them both!
