Here's my op ed on the case of Sudiksha Konanki:
The DR had one shot to dodge a PR s*itstorm that would’ve plastered its dirty laundry across every major news outlet for months. This was the only way out, swept under the rug; because left to its own devices, the corruption and incompetence would’ve been a neon sign screaming "failure." The fuerza pública bumbling around like keystone cops, the DR justice system screwing up basic due process so badly it’s their Mona Lisa, and a stunning failure of a search effort.
Then there’s the hotel. A glorified flop-house that couldn’t secure a broom closet, let alone a resort. Basic security? Infrastructure? A joke. Instead, they’re pouring tequila down your throat, cheering on debauchery like it’s a mission statement.
And in the middle of this poor man's Cirque du Soleil, a young woman dies. Killed or drowned herself, doesn’t matter. The aftermath was such a clusterf*** of errors. If she did drown at her own hands, it’s a huge middle finger that a cornpone cousin-breeding redneck from Iowa gets to keep stumbling through life like a bad punchline. This genius, Earth’s poster child for useless eaters, carries on, guaranteed to deliver his next spectacular f*** up while the universe mourns someone who actually mattered.
Meanwhile, the DR’s justice system keeps playing its favorite game, pay for play. Got cash, contacts? Murder’s just a line item on your tab. Rub someone the wrong way or look at them funny? Straight to jail, shakedown, beat-down, who knows it's worse than Russia roulette. It’s a two-tiered, no rules free for all where the house always wins and everyone knows it.
