Here's my op ed on the case of Sudiksha Konanki:

The DR had one shot to dodge a PR s*itstorm that would’ve plastered its dirty laundry across every major news outlet for months. This was the only way out, swept under the rug; because left to its own devices, the corruption and incompetence would’ve been a neon sign screaming "failure." The fuerza pública bumbling around like keystone cops, the DR justice system screwing up basic due process so badly it’s their Mona Lisa, and a stunning failure of a search effort.

Then there’s the hotel. A glorified flop-house that couldn’t secure a broom closet, let alone a resort. Basic security? Infrastructure? A joke. Instead, they’re pouring tequila down your throat, cheering on debauchery like it’s a mission statement.

And in the middle of this poor man's Cirque du Soleil, a young woman dies. Killed or drowned herself, doesn’t matter. The aftermath was such a clusterf*** of errors. If she did drown at her own hands, it’s a huge middle finger that a cornpone cousin-breeding redneck from Iowa gets to keep stumbling through life like a bad punchline. This genius, Earth’s poster child for useless eaters, carries on, guaranteed to deliver his next spectacular f*** up while the universe mourns someone who actually mattered.

Meanwhile, the DR’s justice system keeps playing its favorite game, pay for play. Got cash, contacts? Murder’s just a line item on your tab. Rub someone the wrong way or look at them funny? Straight to jail, shakedown, beat-down, who knows it's worse than Russia roulette. It’s a two-tiered, no rules free for all where the house always wins and everyone knows it.
Wow. It's like a print version of an extreme right-wing podcast by some dude living in his parents' basement. You, sir, certainly have the right to share your opinions, but using such phrasing puts said opinions at the bottom of the pile of s*hit. Have a good day! (borrowed from your style...hope you don't mind)

Nah, this intellectual exactly hits the tone of modern interaction, credit is due. Hate is the new love. He could even become a great Potus with these talents and by great I mean the greatest of all times, I mean really the greatest, absolutely nothing will come close, seriously.

The law says innocent until proven guilty. But hey what does the law know, f@ck the law, we don’t need it. Fire the law. Make the unlaw great again.

DR1 "experts" usually say that you don't really need a lawyer in DR until you are in court. So yes, this guy needed a criminal defense lawyer for his court hearings.
One big problem with that statement. He only got to Court AFTER he hired a lawyer. Was held illegally without representation. Ever hear of the "back room'? These guys invented it.... Get a lawyer as soon as you can no matter how innocent you are...............

You're definitely hitting the 10mg-ers tonight.
Hijo. Follow Frank Costanza’s advice. Serenity now! Serenity now! I haven’t used serious medication since I crushed my ribs a few years ago but that’s another story. I did however, enjoy a few sips of dark rum last night and a delicious piece of tiramisu.

I enjoy the insights and dark humour you share in your posts and I’m glad to hear the curve balls I write in my posts provide levity for you. Posts should never be boring. I think we both agree on that.

I base my Riibe lawsuit assumption on the following facts. The US is one of the most litigious societies in the world, probably the most litigious. US citizens are not averse to cashing in on adversity for a fast buck through the media or the courts. The DR judge’s decision to release Joshua because it infringed on his rights under the DR constitution is the perfect basis for a lawsuit. His DR lawyers are well versed in DR constitutional law according to one poster and now have the judge’s decision on their side. This has the makings of a perfect legal storm and a potential media field day.

I’m betting that one way or another the Riibe family will get compensation, especially if they pursue legal means. It’s a pity more families don’t hold DR resort owners and government agencies accountable for their actions. More concern for the safety of resort clientele by resort owners and better legal treatment of gringos could be the end result.

Hijo, we’re just pawns on life’s chessboard. The chicken bones omens have been read and the moving hand, having written, moves on. The Tarot cards have been dealt and the dice have been tossed. “ Que sera sera.” Doris Day’s words not mine. Enjoy your day in the beautiful DR, an enigmatic country but infinitely entertaining.

Riibe has a better shot at winning the Presidency here than suing the PN for false arrest. NO CHANCE.............And there is also NO chance he would even try. He is just happy to get out of Dodge...............

Wise advice! The only thing I would add is hire a shark not a tuna. I did during my divorce and walked away from court richer than when I walked in.

I’m not so sure. There is money to be made here and when that happens, a legal feeding frenzy is possible. Greed is a wonderful motivator when your the beneficiary.

This is over. Nobody is going to sue anyone. And the body will never be found unless it is by some accident.

DR1 "experts" usually say that you don't really need a lawyer in DR until you are in court. So yes, this guy needed a criminal defense lawyer for his court hearings.

But since when Guzman Ariza became criminal defense lawyers? It's not their area of expertise at all. Probably they got involved because the relatives of the guy did not have time to find somebody else. Or maybe because Guzman Ariza wanted to turn it into advertising of their firm for foreigners, because of the wide publicity of the case, so they were mentioned a lot in the press. They need foreign clients to pay for their overpriced services, and advertising on DR1 doesn't work anymore because there are only a few old expats left on this forum who don't have any money anyway.

So good thing is not that he hired these lawyers, but that they did not fcuk it up, because it's not their area of expertise at all.
Do you have personal experience with Guzman Ariza or is this just your personal opinion not based on facts.

But he could be charged instead of set free to go.
We had a situation where our condo association attorney became faced with a criminal case. That was not within her area of expertise and she referred it to a criminal lawyer and worked together with him. I'm guessing that Guzman Ariza might have done the same thing had it become a criminal case(?).

But he wasn't charged hence the issue.
After 48hrs they can't legally hold him longer without him being formally charged. It appears they chose to ignore the law (go figure) and held him longer while violating his rights in the process.

Honestly I have not read a lot about the case because I don't understand why so much noise about somebody who got drunk and puked during all her vacation and finally drowned, not a big loss to a society. Would DR Government do a massive search like this if some Dominican goes missing after drinking too much cleren at the local colmado?

So maybe I missed that part, but did they hold him at all? As I understand, he was continuing spending his vacation in the same resort, and even for free (Government paid for his extended stay), he was under supervision all the time, but can it be legally interpreted as being held? He was not locked in a prison cell.
