Regarding the safes - very impressive that it couldn't be opened for several hours. When I forgot my code in Hawaii, the man had the door off in 20 seconds without any special tools - felt belongings were very secure here.
Regarding the towels - usually I exchanged at night wet for dry, and only had to wait once for fresh towels.
Regarding diaherra - don't know for sure why some people get it more than others. We ate at Italian and my wife and kids were fine until we got home. I tried to eat "safe" foods but suffered anyway. I attibute this to a change in environment more than food-bourne illness, but I am not a physician and I did not test any of the food. One food-handling routine that had me watching was at the bar in the activity pool. The glasses were swished in soapy warm water, swished again in the neighbouring sink and re-used. This appeared a little bacteria friendly so I choose not to think about it too much.
Regarding the misquotes, there were some but not as bad as any provinicial park in Ontario in the months of May and June. Lastly, my least favourite thing about the buffet was the dessert selection. It was all mushy type squares; my wife likes these, but I will be buying an apple pie this weekend! Missing the sun and beach already.

Movies can be rented for 7 USD and bring your own chocolate or chips as these are VERY expensive in the shops.

:tired: Nothing personal to you pretty canuk.... but if I cigarettes are included in the all inclusive package, I will be sooooo upset. There is NO WAY that I should have to pay for that little luxury, I don't smoke and to be frank, I would rather tolerate any of the problems the resort is having then pay for your cancer causing habits. I suggest you bring your own. :surprised

for those who have been there...i have not seen pictures of the lobby...is there a fountain of some sort or a special unmissable tree or plant sitting there that one could say "meet me at the __________ in the lobby at 6 pm on friday for a meet and greet"

it would be neat to put faces to the nicknames....maybe planner could join us!...

what say y'all?

Well I think this is a good idea. I am clearing my schedule right now so I can come and meet you all...........

In front of the lobby, just before you walk inside there are 3 park benches. That makes an ideal meeting spot.

So you say when and I will be there. Make sure to contact me when you are here........

Now: Cigarettes are NOT included ever. They are very inexpensive here by Canadian standards so unless you are hoooked on your own brand, don't worry.

Snacks: people you are coming to an all inclusive resort! Don't worry about snacks unless you have an addiction to lays or pringles or something..... And yes they are expensive. Save the room and luggage weight to bring school supplies down!!!

Diaharria (wish I could spell that word) - it is all about your system being subjected to a new routine. The first couple of days - go slow on alcohol, go slow on sun, go slow on slushy drinks, eat what you know and can tolerate. Go easy on fried and greasy foods too. Once you have adjusted a little bit then try other things.

IF you get it - lots and lots of water, rest, use immodium and pepto.

For really personal conversations please use the PM button or email each other.

Anything else?????

geesh, planner...you really know how to "poop" the party (pardon the pun)...lmao

also, from a nursing perspective...i would avoid the pepto unless you absolutely have to...what ever is in there has to get out, otherwise it wont resolve. stick with the +++ water, avoid the citrus juices if you can (holy laxatives, batman) and the coconut based drinks...really stay hydrated. Immod is great to....but overdoing that can also take to the other extreme and make it worse.

remember, just because its included doesnt mean you have to overdo it...the big thing is adjusting to the environment.

booyah...team canada GOT'R'DONE!...woohoo!

Planner:
We are leaving arriving on the 21st. Just wondering if you've had a chance to visit lately and if some of the plumbing problems have been fixed? Can you find happy guests? Please tell me that you have found more having a good time than we have heard on this forum!

Just returned from the holiday village golden beach.
What can i say? It's sure been an experience i will never forget--THE HOLIDAY FROM HELL!

My wife and 2 kids were in bed for 4 days with sickness and the runs ?70 to have a doctor visit them.

This is Not a 4 star hotel more like a 2 Star

The 5 rooms yes 5 rooms! that we stayed in were all still under construction.
Flooded rooms flooded bathrooms!
Our personal belongings were damaged by the water coming into our room

Im taking a personal case out with my solicitor

The young lad rep sat with his head in hands before we was taken into a room and the door closed then said that he was sorry about the problems but was inundated with other problems and we would be dealt with as quick as possible this was after our 4th room change.

no beach towels as there was a shortage
standing upto an hour for a table in the buffet restaurant
mosquitos in the food areas
staff was rude!

the only good thing about the holiday that after several hours of sittig and waiting to be able to go into the pool myself and the kids was allowed to go use the pool in the royal suites (normally you have to pay to extra to stay in this part)

A/c worked hit and miss
waited for 6 hours after we cheked i for a room to become free!
A nightmare!

Our group has made the official request via our TA to Signature and are in the process of relocation to another POP resort.

Still lots of time for HVGB improvement, and it sounds like there is, but our reasons to relocate are as follows:

- The Canadian 'Signature' travel Boucher did not make it clear that the entire adult only area was off limits, unless you are over 18 and have upgraded. It was written such that the upgrades were for the rooms and did not formally list the area restrictions. Our group consists of 2 teens[15 and 17]; two young adults [both 18] and mum and dad [well over 21]

We were counting on the 3rd pool. One pool has been converted to the wave pool in the kid's area, and as a result only the central L shaped pool remains, for the pool side folks. The central pool is also the hub for all the swimming related programs, and I understand that there are periods of congestion and limited recreational use in the pool. Also the swim up bar is not available to us and it is always one of our pool highlights. It is located in the adult only area.

- The sewage issues and infrastructure problems listed in 'Debbie?s' and 'trip advisor' is also a concern. I do not want to worry about the related problems.

- Some of the other all inclusive activities are a pay as you go after you make an initial deposit [ i.e. the zip line].

- We understand from the previous posts that the water slides are two small for adults.

- No evening swimming which is a favorite amongst us and teens - never had experienced this - heck at old 'paradise beach' just around the corner from HVGB we swam in the evening.

- We are experienced third world travelers [i.e. my wife worked a year in Africa] and have been to POP before and know what to expect. We just want a vacation that suits our needs and I'm certain that this is an awesome place for the kids and adult only guests.

I am certain that things are going to improve - but having to lose the third pool was not made known to us when we booked in September.

I have already contacted my TA to get onto 'Signature' for relocation.

All the best to you folks that are going to the HVGB - I have very much enjoyed the posts and the effort put in by 'planner'

What to do?

Hello fellow sun-seekers.
I have been avidly reading this site since we booked our family vacation last September.
My husband and 6yo and I are in a family room and my mother is travelling with us and staying in a room by herself. We are leaving Halifax Mar 16 for 2 weeks.

The new information is kind of upsetting and I am trying to take it with a grain of salt. Some things like 'only 4 english tv chanels' and skeeter problems aren't too distressing. I go for the beach and sun, not the tv, and with deet, no bites for me. Now I know we are not going for 2 months and I hope most probs will be ironed out by then. (and when you say there is no evening swimming, does that mean NO swimming, or no lifeguard on duty, swim at your own risK?)

I am concerned about ankle deep seweage backing up in my room. I call my agent today and Signature has just got a resort update today, and guess what --- all is perfect at the resort. We are taking up the concerns we have with a manager, who has yet to call us back. (par for the course with the info from some posters, I see) . While no one should have sewage in their hotel room, I have a medical condition that this would be deadly for me... So we are looking at our options to change hotels if the posts continue in this vein.....
Here is my question. does anyone have any Pictures of these sub standard conditions? Let me tell you If I was in a hotel and planning on getting some compensation for a ruined vacation, I would have my 1g chip on my camera full! If anyone has any pics of these deplorable conditions can they post pics, or if not , can you pm them to me?
thanks

I too would like to actually see pictures of the deplorable conditions. If any are available and you want to post them they should be sent to Signature as well.

Awesome Point.

Why hasn't anyone that has complained (there are a number of you out there) taken pictures? Proof is in the pudding.

Signature changing hotels - Good Luck on that one. Having you TA getting into contact with Signature. I applaud you effort, but I don't think your going to like the outcome, unless you are willing to pay more.

Having issue with your internal plumbing. Drink More booze and get drunker. :):):)

Beach Towels - Go in the afternoon near the end of the day, and put one back in your room. Presto, you have some for the next day.

Let's get back to this first thing I quoted in this post.

I never thought to ask that question. Why on earth would you just "complain" and get a "file" when you have issues, when you could easily take pictures ?

I am now actually second guessing the negitive reviews on most things. If the conditions were really that poor, it would be in your best interest to document it by photos so when you get back home you have proof that can't be disputed.

As for the Bob and Doug thing - WE ARE THERE. We (our group) will meet at those benches if you wish to meet us. Now remember we are on vacation. No one can take a sucker punch to me for my posts here :) I would be most upset, and that wouldn't be fun for either of us :):)

If you are leaving from Toronto on the 18th and would like to have a conversation about this thread we will be there around 3am. I will be the one in the shorts and flip flops waiting to go get some sun.

Hmmm what else can I say ...... Man you guys have been very busy on this thread today while I was sleeping (worked overnights this week), so I don't have the energy to quote from previous posts to comment on.

Congrats to Canada !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woot Woot !!!!!!

Countdown time is: 12 more sleeps

Planner - Are you going to be able to be at the resort on Thursday Jan 18th or even Friday during the day sometime?
