Power is out again between Cabarete and Sosua. Dont think this is the planned outages but weather related.

Batteries ok and generator fine.

Michael,
It looks as if the center has moved a bit offshore so the winds in your area of Nagua will be a bit less - the track has not been confirmed but it may make quite a difference.

thx, I remember Jeanne it was bad here in Nagua. Half of my coconut trees went down 1 week no Power. I don't want that again. She was slow slow slow. She stayed the whole night over Matancita, that' where i live

Does anyone know the ministry of education website that will show if school is cancelled again for tomorrow. I was looking yesterday for it on some ministry website but I didn't see any announcement even though schools were cancelled... Is it expected to be a lot worse in Puerto Plata over night and into tomorrow?

We remember Jeanne too and this Irene should be much more powerfull - it has moved a bit offshore so it will be less.
Edenorte Power is still off here between Sosua and Cabarete and the wind has just got up again to about 25 kts in the gusts.
Some rain but not torrential!
Where is the weather guru - Mike when you need him!!

Nice site Celt. I've added it to what I watch.

I looks like Mikes' little girl is getting BIGGER. Maybe not stronger but the radar and cloud mass looks like it has expanded. S.D. may get more then they thought.

Like I said about 10 pages ago, unless she turned a hard left, this would be a none-event.

Mike called it, W-NW was not going to hurt more than rain with a little breeze. And believe me, with a wooden house on the beach, I do keep a watch. A 6 foot storm surge might move the sailboats on the front yard a bit...bit I doubt it.

Not that I am tempting the gods of the hurricanes and the seas...heaven forbid I tempt fate!!

But rest easy folks, there may be some inconveniences but I do not believe there will be major issues for most of us.

Papa HB to all the chillen out there

Irene is supposed to get to Cat 3 at least, and the NYC talking heads are calling it/her a "monster" already. Thing is, there is nothing much between her and South Carolina but warm water and some little places called the Bahamas...
