For those on LBI, you better leave while the leaving is possible. With 8,000 locals and 92,000 summer people, the 1 bridge out isn't going to make it. Rare to have this big a storm pre-Labor day when the tourists are present.

~Plus not to mention how many times Historically the Bay met the Ocean with tidal flooding during storms.....and it will HIT on the WEEKEND to boot...all too familiar with that nightmare.....

I don't have much notice about Samana, but it was anyways not in the hardets Stuff Zone.
take a look on the SE where the real Hardware went through.
Bayahibe is now named Atlantis, the Hotels been luckily evacuated, streets and buildings are still flooded, the Dominicus Beach is simply Gone and will not come back as it had been before.
and we still have thunderstorm bands moving through for the whole SE and even harder for Puerto Rico, so the flooded Areas do not get a break to start to fry, they still get more water added on top.
Irene itself is Gone, but Her babies are messing around and they are quiet strong Babies not to mes around with.
here the rai stopped 40 minutes ago, but the next Thunder can already be heard in the not so far distance, no Sunburns this week in Punta Cana.

stay safe on that Path of Irene, she will be around from the SE'ern Caribbean til up to the NE'ern USA for quiet a longer while.

Irene is turning.
by the 11AM Update She left Her WNW'ern Path and turns upwards, running a direct NW now and should turn more. Her central pressure is dropping, a sign for further Intensification.
on such Track she would spare the SE Coast as a Hit, the Tracks need to get shifted towards the North of the Eastcoast.

I was just looking at the computer tracking models. Although the models show only a 4% chance that the track will hit NY harbor directly at cat. 2 or higher, that is in other words, 1 chance in 25 that the entire world's economy will be affected. Not to mention needing to evacuate a million people.

It won't hurt to close the NY Stock Exchange for a few days..... they're totally screwing up the world .

It’s crazy what’s happening in America today: We’re having an economic crisis and the politicians are having an election — and there is almost no overlap between the two.

Sorry for the political rant.....

~Just looked at the latest model they are showing and it looks as if the eye would only be about 50 miles off the coast of Jersey as it passes by, however Long Island would be a direct hit if it stays on track of the model...BUTTTTTTTT we know that the odds are 50%- 50% that the weather men and models are correct...But nonetheless the effect on the economy will be affected...power outages, flooding, wind damages...oh yah and Wall Street closed on Monday morning....IT's Pare for the Course in this world that we live in....just keep kickin us when were down....but no finger pointin on this one....this is an Act of God...lol

San Pedro de Macoris - river has flooded. Hundreds are flooded out and even fish swimming through the houses. Irene may have been nada at the time but certainly isn't now. And they still smile - this was sent to me last night.

You're right - all the barrier islands in South Jersey are the same - tiny bridges to leave the island, so it's important to leave while we can.

Thanks to all for the advice and good wishes. Whatever I do, it may be alone, because my husband is working Saturday, and when things like this happen the casinos not only don't close - they keep their employees on site after their shift ends because they know that no one will show up to replace them, and they have a hotel full of trapped guests who they hope will gamble and lose $$.

So I'll batten down the hatches and head off to the mainland if it looks bad.

Yes, our daughter lives about 10 miles away on 3 acres in the woods. That's where I'll be heading.

Thanks for caring, and thanks to those of you who have PM'd me. Feels like family here :)
