Just what everyone needs........another weather forcaster that doesn't know diddly squat.
Everyone becomes an expert
Thats why we have weather EXPERTS......thanks Mike

wrong, there is no weather expert Mike,
there is no weather expert anywhere, it is just the "guessings" or "predictions" made out of the available Info.
luckily Todays we have a heck of info about active storms and their movement available compared to 10 or 20 years ago, and that info is in case of accurracy very well improovedn compared to even just 2 years ago.
the rest is up to the individuals following or denying to folow the common sense actions recommended out of all that Info.

as for the DR, specially the East and SE which been and are the by far most effected Areas by Irene, people should still follow the News and not focus on the CNN predictions for Irene for the USA the next 5=8 Days, as we are still under the heavy influence of the same Storm right here.
we passed on the East an other full day of Rain with heavy winds, luckily we do not have vulnerable River Areas for floodings and Mudslides, but we all know we have such not far away and there Irene is still on full effect with all Her Bad.

and while the Models say otherwise, the Track of 90OL is not decided before early weekend, we are under mayor flooding desasters in many Areas of the Country Now and do not want to think about aditions on that, but We have to watch as the peak time of the Line Up on the Highway simply just has started, but by far not have reached any peak point or Max or such.

~Thanks Mike....Batton down the hatches NorEasterners...looks like its gonna blow hard on us up here:paranoid::paranoid::paranoid::paranoid::paranoid:

the B$tch turned a lot, I would see NYC as her southern most possible hitting point, Canada is much more into the Game as teh US is.
I just hope they go on flying their Buoy dropping missions to keep the neighbours informed about the best possible Tracks and warnings, They do Not do any of that for Us, but we still will keep our Bras open and the Beers cold for the Northern Neighbours on their next visit.

I was just looking at the computer tracking models. Although the models show only a 4% chance that the track will hit NY harbor directly at cat. 2 or higher, that is in other words, 1 chance in 25 that the entire world's economy will be affected. Not to mention needing to evacuate a million people.

com on Man, 1 out of 25 chances to get down the world economy???
I guess with much less chances you Guys did much better to get it much further down not long ago, aparently not everywhere recovered, yet, lol.
and as the GAMBLING on such Biz always runs, the serious and reliable Biz would take the count and keep a Million people safe, others see more the "danger" of loosing Money and leave them out in the danger.
on which kinda Biz You Trust your Life on??
lol

It won't hurt to close the NY Stock Exchange for a few days..... they're totally screwing up the world .

It?s crazy what?s happening in America today: We?re having an economic crisis and the politicians are having an election ? and there is almost no overlap between the two.

Sorry for the political rant.....

ha ha ha

sad to hear that in Todays Times such two by some named "Vital" things for Humanity do not have overlaps to coordinate with each others.
but that may be anyways a mayor factor why it goes so deep and quick downhill, even that some millions still cheer for the Political crowd, he he

UUUHH, Mike? Look back down the highway....there might be another truck coming this way....not called anything yet but it has a 60% chance of doing something...

HB

HB,
that's what I am talking about since last Night, but it's still far away and may be supposed to run into the Graveyard, but til now it doesn't as it walks straight Westward Hoooo.

we need to settle down the Irene aftermaths frist (which are at least here on the East by far not fin9ished/torrential rain at my house now) before You can mention the next Baby.

Did Irene do any damage?

I am thinking of a trip to the north coast in a week or so and wanted to know if Irene did any damage? I will be in puerto plata and want to also spend some time by sousa beach. Just want to make sure my stay will okay and i will be able to enjoy myself

My husband just talked to his family in DR - sounds like all the rains from up north ran down to the south. Bridges under water [they told him the one over the Rio Nizao where he used to swim on weekends with friends is under water and impassable], parts of San Cristobal unreachable because of flooding, etc. All the rivers are swollen - most of them were almost bone dry recently.

Irene has the best chances to be on the next Cat Level of the Game by breakfast tomorrow morning,
but as much as her still very presents effects can be felt here, at least at my Place and we await such for an other couple Days at least, we also have to keep an Eye on the far East to know what may be on the Run in an week or so.

the Models bring Invest 90L SW of the Cape Verdes up to the Graveyard, but why they do so I don't see, it is a strong and since this morning very well organized System on a straight Westward Track, finally Tracking at that stage is simply impossible to predict, but for now it is a possible ""Next Baby"" for the Caribbean.

spending so may Billions per Year/Zillions per Decade on useless weapons productions and Use of Them I wished the so named 1st World Countries would spend per Season just a few more lil Millions on some more Flights to drop the Buoys and Sonds to keep the Tracking Forecasts for Storms more accurate.
90L is in no way anything to spend money on, much too far away to do any Harm, but when Irene approached the Caribbean Islands such Flights(easily possible technically, it is just a matter of Money spend on it to do so or not) would have been very appreciated, may have even saved the Life of the Person which Drowned in PR during Irene.
but there may be of course Higher/Better/more valuable Interests than Lifes for some economies.

why we don't do it ourselves??
Because We can't, we don't have the knowledge nor the money to spend it on it.

since Irene left the Northshores of the DR the Trackings are 200-300 %%% more effective, that's why they get corrected so often lately, with each receipt of the Sonds/Buyos Datas.
it is done now to bring more protection to the US Coastline, and good to do so,
but who wanna Rule the World should be responsible enough to also Protect that same Ruled World.

been a Rant?
Yes, once in a while such is necessary,
and once a while every few decades a Rant may change some behaviors/spendings towards a better World, and at that moment they become to be done Right.

you wanna drink Caipiri?as in Mexico over the weekend?, don't let the Drugs from there enter your soil because they rule the world down there.
You wanna spend cheap and comfy well prepared AI vacations on DR Beaches or go Fishing with Mikey for the biggest Fishes You ever saw? drop those sonds and Buoys when the Storms approach the Caribbean Islands, NOT Afterwards when they missed to get knocked down on our Mountains and become a mayor desaster threat for yourselves.

no offense meant to specific Persons, I took Me long before I posted it to not get it in words which come up Offensive, but it is of course a Mayor Complaint about a Gubmint which is not Mine, but enjoys My Country's Hospitality all around the Year, who's People would complaint about too much Seaweed on our Shores during a 500 bucks per week AI Vacation specially when some Hotels may not provide any Beach Bar Services in the near Future because some needed Employees may refuse to work on such risky places.

this is my Rant to stirr the Pot,
not to offend anybody.
as a matter of Fact the USA has the technology and the Planes and the Staff to throw such Sonds/Buoys in the Path of every freakin' Storm appoaching the Caribbean from the East,
do Your Ruled World a Lifesaving Favor and Throw them before they are in front of NYC.

we will be thankfull and lower the Rates for AI Vacation Weeks including Pina Coladas on Clean Beaches even more.

AE

that's correct, San Crisobal got it hard in case of Floodings and the very hardest Hardware came down and over the SouthEast, not something flooding down from North to South, the toughest Parts of Irene never been close to the Northshore.
check some actual Pictures of Bayahibe on Facebook and other Sources, that lil Town is LandUnder, the Dominicus Beach is simply not existing anymore, the Hotel with around 1000 and the Carabela Bayahibe with around 300 Visitors been evacuated, none got Hurt on that, the water reached each single room of the properties, the Pools are overloaded with Seaweed.
again I have to praise the preparedness of our so called Banana Republic, til now I did not get Notice of People left out or behind of the Actions, everybody followed the public advises to stay Safe.
the same for Puerto Rico, parts of the neighbour Island got it even harder than we did, sorrily today I read that one Person drowned during Irene(don't know the circumstances), but aside of a mayor Power Out and heavy floodings they also did very well during such exceptionally hard and dangerous Days, congratulations over there.
and I guess Puerto Rico also would appreciate to be seen as part of the US in case of Sond/Buoy droppings to be more Safe during a Storms approach, I would guess the US Virgin Islands would not complaint to be Part of that "Home" Crowd neither.

I stop Ranting now, Time for the late afternoon Coffee.

Does anyone have any stats for how much water.. ie rainfall .. we have had this season? Is it far above normal? i have been searching for stats for an article but have only found averages. Seems like an awful lot of water has fallen in the last few months. I feel all moldy. Not to mention my clothes.

If you have not looked at Mirador's photo back on page 78, please do.
The river was just a little creek. But no trees in the mountains, and look what happens.

Irene dumped between 4 and 8 inches and more in the mountains...

Irene dumped a lot of water in specific Areas at a Time, but sen over the Year's stats such does not have the huge impact on the numbers.
compared to last year I would say we are much more wet than 2010 been at the same time of the year, at least when seen for Punta Cana where I live. last year we had the first week of January exceptionally hard rains for many days, but then it switched into a exceptionally dry period of a looooong Time, even the predicted far above average Hurricane Season kept Us over all very Dry, dryer than a average for the last decade of the same time period.
this year I would say we are above that due Emily and Irene, but not much, it is a slight difference, a Storm or 2 does not have the big Impact for a Year's Wateramounts. for a specific Month's Water it of course has a big impact on the stats, but such is completely invaluable for a Region's yearly Rainfalls. too much Rain in a short Time Period does not assist a Region's Agricultural Needs of Water, the opposite, too much can cause damages.

Irene looks again different on the Shots now than she did late afternoon.
during this afternoon she showed her Eye very clear on the Sat Loops, because she had a clean and flowing Upper Level Outflow on all Sides and increased her Thunderstorm Activity around the Center.
now it is hidden for the Spy Eye from Space, I guess such means She tapped it by heavy Thunderstorm activity around her eyewall again, a sign of Intensification. as she dropped her Central Pressure during this afternoon I would say she grows up, even that it been expected that she would struggle a bit the next 24hrs due the Damage she received on her southern eyewall.

and she has still Her darn signs hanging over Us here on the SE.
and as the big rare thingy for here, this eve we are without Power, I walked the Beach with Baby Sunshine and our Rat Jerry as usual around 8:30PM and BUMMM, all lights in our back went out, just we saw some lightnings in the far Distance Landwards means there been some struck I guess, at least we are without power still now.

wind is here now Dead Calm, absolutely Zero, even just 20 meters away from the Beach I can not hear the Ocean, and that's at my Place rare even during calm Times. just this morning we measured Gusts of 25Knots here at the same Place, just around 14 hrs ago or so.
I can't see what's moving on up in the Skies, at least no stars nor a Moon or such to see, just a Dark Mass.
it's strange. by the Radar all coming in now here is from the ESE, so we are fianlly entering again the Directions which we can watch hours before Stuff arrives, there is still some rain out there, moving slow, so no more windpowers expected for hours, but after many days it looks like we may get clear on the Eastern Shores of DR.
maybe tomorrow morning I will let the Baby Girl play again in the Water by the Beach and have my Coffee there, as She is my Alarm Clock I can't miss the Time on Sunrise, lol.
feels really good to be calm again,
and as lil fishing Town is without Power no Fuc$ing Colmadon or such has any music playing, even the Priest of the freakin' Church 100 Meters down the Parkway has nothing to show, looks like He forgot to charge the Batteries of His Megaphone, so tonight we may not have our usual Discussions about Fallen Angels and Rising Fishermen, we anyways calmed down a lot over the Years, I barely remember the last Time of a Fist Fight or a Gun pulled due His Noise, he knows we are Angels if He let's us to be a bit of Devils once in a while, and He knows I hate NOISE when the Baby goes to Bed, lol.

how is the Weather on the Southeast/Bayahibe??
I know those Guys got by far the Most out of Irene and the Pictures Friends sent me are not something ready for a Touristy AD.

let's forget about Invest90L for now,
the System is really very well organizing, very well, but it goes the wrong Way to get Famous, not on the Highway to Cyclone Glory, a few hours ago it started to show a swift and it looks now even more of that, wanders over all more NW than West, Heading for the Graveyard.
such is not sure as long a Storm isn't Formed, as til then you can never be sure wheer finally the Center will be located and due that where the final heading will point to, but 90L is IMHO out of the Game.
it should be a Tropical Depression during tomorrow on the wrong Path to join the Family.

maybe we will get a sunny weekend to Hit da Beach here?

we'll see, lol

Mountainanne, On the north coast at least the rainfall this year is significantly below the four year average. If you add in Irene it is still below but about 18" . The year 2010 was one of the wettest years in the last five and almost 50% above the four year average.
We would be interested to know the thesis of your article - perhaps you can tell us all!

from the looks of all the pictures I have seen, it looks like the north (Puerto Plata/Samana) was relatively unscathed, the beaches even look good compared to the south down towards Santo Domingo and San Cristobal, which does not make sense as they were further away from the storm? How did Punta Cana and La Romana make out.
