One would not know there is a hurricane coming this way. The sunsets were gorgeous on Wednesday evening, there was a humid hot air, but some breeze, too. Everyone is bunkered in, speaking for Santo Domingo. Not a car can be heard passing.
Thursday is a forced holiday, as all businesses that can are shutting down for the day, same for government. It's almost midnight, and hardly a breeze is felt.

We all feel relieved that Irma seems to be taking the NWN track as had been forecast.

Indeed, quiet Dominicans, now there's an ominous sign! :p

But it's scary quiet in my part of SD right now. No pasolas, motos, cars, loud talking, horns, car alarms, garbage trucks, music or fighting. It's almost completely clear with only a slight breeze. So far, I'd say that this storm is an improvement over a typical night here.

Computer models are great, but I like actual data more. The eye of Irma passed north of San Juan by 30 miles and the maximum winds I saw reported were about 60 mph.

The same SW and W quadrant will be over the north coast later today but, on it's projected track, the eye should be more than 100 miles off the north coast. Right now I don't expect it to be more than a rainy, windy day.

Somehow)?) it seems that they didn't get the wind gradient right - at least not on the south side. I think the situation is very different on the north side of Irma and the DR is very lucky it didn't pass to the south. SD would have been a complete disaster.

I'm on the beach in my condo just east of Cabarete. The winds are calm. The sky is partly cloudy with a bright full moon. Waves are about 4 to 5 feet.

CNN confirmed 900,000 lost power and 50,000 no water in Puerto Rico. as of 11pm EST.

maybe the result of shutting down the power on purpose with a approaching storm that close?
Islanders arenot dumb, they do such onpurpose.
the estimated 50.000 without water is sure much higher, with the power out most homes are withoutwater, too.
why does CNN mention such?
we talked with family in PR in San Juan and the East all the time while the storm passed.
phones and internet worked withotu any interruption.
power been shut down and will be back as soon as the workers revised their lines at all areas, for safety.
sure some place received damages to be repaired, but nothing compared to what been awaited or to what CNN forecasted.

Same here. I'm right on the beach and there's is only a light wind less than 5 kts right now. I'm sure it will start picking up in another hour or two.

Outside of Sosua. Wind and rain woke us up at 3AM as the storm is approaching. Power was already out so on batteries/inverter now. Still have TV and as you can see, internet at this time. Got the dogs out for a few minutes on the protected side of the house. They were very quick doing doggy stuff.

So far, nothing to worry about. That could change in a couple of hours.

I'm up as well. Curiosity over took the willingness to toss and turn around 04:15.

Coffee is made and I notice a bunch of winged ants flying around. Waiting for the sun rise.

Current pressure 101.6

Very strong wind from the south-west here in Playa Bonita (Las Terrenas). But we are still online, it doesn't seem to be as bad as expected. Hopefully it'll get better within a couple of hours.

Like every one else said, in Sosua as well, right now just some drizzle and some consistent wind and occasional gust, but nothing to worry about. Power was cut off early morning as a precautionary measure I think, we have generator here. All else is okay.

I think at around 2pm it is going to be closest to us, so hold on tight, so far so good, no flooding or flying debris etc..
