HOT morning to you... or for you. 8:30 AM. Not a cloud in the sky and in the shade temp is already at 80 F at our place. No breeze. Ocean is calm.

I don't see any cloud cover anywhere on the map. Though most stations forecast around 90 F high, I'll bet that the full sun will put the heat index over 100 F and most will be running for some A.C. (I'm already drenched grooming 1 horse and walking him to his pasture.)

North Coast between Cabarete and Sosua, a fantastic day with a high of 91 F - still above average but cooling just a bit. Rainfall this month is much below average at 3.9 inches todate. Average over 6 years was 9.6 inches so much below average. With no Tropical Storms or Hurricanes it could be a very dry year.

Good evening. Our temps remain high and still dry in the central north. Our water has been off all day, check yours if on Coraaplata. It appears that the POP area and extending up the coast is in a rather heavy smog. Humidity is high also since the hills to my south, 5 miles, are hazing too.

While in S.D. the last couple of days a nice mix of sun, clouds and some rain. We noticed going and returning rain south of Santiago to just north of S.D. I don't know how much since no one reports but ... that is the area that we get our horse hay from and no one has any and I'm out along with everyone else.

Looks like a system to our S.W. that could move in on us.

Good morning from Playa Chiquita. 8:30 AM. 82.8 F with high humidity, 3.8 mph breeze out of the east. High overcast clouds. Ocean is calm.

POP is much clearer this morning with a slight whitish haze, I do not see any smoke from burning the fields.

Most stations forcast temp's in the mid to upper 80's with a heat index in the low to mid 90's. Chance of rain for the north with 90% chances for the S.D. area. I can see the clouds already moving into that area.

Good afternoon. 4:50PM. I thought that I'd do another today to let our friends in the POP area know that.... The sugar cane fields have been burning again today with heavy smoke over your area. Sorry.

Second. Our wonderful Coraaplata water is still off for now over two days. Not a real problem since we noticed back then and conserved. You might want to check yours.

Half a block away someone is burning a lot so we too have smoke and the winds have picked up. They have NO water on the lot or near since they don't have a faucet and ... no water in the lines anyway.

Still high overcast clouds. 84F, 12.9 mph winds out of the East with 20 mph gusts. 60% humidity. Ocean swells up some with very visible white caps out of the N.E.

In general, most areas look like they will be clearing and continued hot.

Not many report the rain. We have been soooo dry and hot up in my area this year. Ollie, you have our rain total for the month?

Have a good evening.

5:05. In the time that it took me to write the above, POP MIGHT get some rain that will help clean the air. Low dark clouds moving in our area. (My personal station says rain in the next 12-24 hours but has not been that accurate.)

Good Morning from Playa Chiquita! 7 AM. 74.7 F with 0.7 mph breeze (?) out of the east, 73% humidity. High cloud cover. Ocean calm.

POP still has a haze and I can see minor smoke still coming from the cane fields. Don't know if them got any rain last evening or not. I didn't. :(

It looks like most of the Island is mostly clear so it might get a little warm. Chance of pop-up thunderstorms in some areas.

Yesterdays highs are in the above post.

Ringo: no rain yesterday or last night in POP...

Too bad charlise. I tried. :)

I guess that I'm on fire/smoke watch these days too. A large amount of smoke in the Cofresi area that has them blanketed too. It could be the landfill aka, dump but it looks like it is further S.E. of it.

HI. It looks like most of our Island had some rain today. Some areas need it and some don't. Temps look ok but humidity high.

Found some hay for our horses but it is damp; not a good thing.

Fire about a block away went out of control and no water, no fire department so 20 or so guys beat it down.

POP still has some cane burning but not as much and that area look A LOT better. Cofresi dump fire is also down.

Coraaplate in our area has TURNED OFF THE WATER and they admit it. They want to sell water via the trucks. My very calm wife got into some faces today and amazed me. We have a trickle coming in now. We also worked with our neighbor and they put some pressure on.

Oooops. This is weather report.

Possible rain and T-storms tonight and into tomorrow for everywhere.

Ringo,
A short shower last night but not measurable. Looks like some HEAVY rain coming up the coast and will be here in about 2-3 hours so you will probably get your cistern filled.

We have had low water pressure too but the cistern is full so it is not a problem.

I have heard that a number of wells have run dry in the area due to the depletion of the water table due too many wells. Not sure whether this affects your area or Coraaplata too!

Ringo,
Its coming your way -just started big drops here about 6 km from you up the coast so you will get some soon! It has come sooner than I thought it would but - rain is rain! Clear the strainers, open the valves and fill the cisterns ( barrels) my hearties!

Thanks Olly. Thunderstorms and 1.25 inches of rain that put around 5,000 gallons in our back cistern from catching roof water. :) Coraaplata pressure is tickling into the front and has added less then 500 gallons since the turned on the water yesterday afternoon. Not enough pressure to push it up the 5 feet rise to the back one.

8:50 AM. 74.7 F, cloudy with Thunder heard and some periods of light rain. 2.2 mph breeze out of the E. Ocean is calm.

Looks like the landfill is still smoldering up in the Cofresi area but the cane field fires/smoke are out. POP looks a lot cleaner this morning.

Looks like rain/T-storms for most of the day. Temps. lower.

Ringo,

Had 1.3 inches of rain here overnight to 7:00 am and a little more since. Temperatures should stay down now as this is the first of the North american Cold fronts to make it past DR.

Nice cool morning! Olly must be correct that we finally have some cooler air coming down. It defiantly felt much cooler yesterday.

7AM in Playa Chiquita/Sosua. 71F, 1 mph out of the S. Low dark clouds and right rain with a total of .35 of and inch in the last 24 hours. Ocean is calm.

Looks like that front is to the east they can expect some more rain along with us in the central and eastern north. The southern stations are forecasting no rain, but don't count on it. :)

Good Evening to all our Frozen Penguins. I've been in another thread about how FREEZING some are. LOL.

From the Sousa area at 6:06 PM. 72.5 F with low clouds with periods of rain. Light breeze, 3.1 mph out of the S.E. Ocean swells up and confused with some surface chop. Only .57 inches of rain today but I'll take every drop that I can get. All cisterns are now FULL. :)

POP fires are all out but Edenorte stacks are smoking. Otherwise you have a very nice clear evening between the rain showers.

The "cold" front has moved east over the P.R. so we can expect our temps to remain lower for awhile. The maps and stations are indicating rain just about everywhere but I don't know how much in the different areas. Let us know.

Looks like about the same tomorrow as we had today.
