True that’s why I decided on the basic last year as I wasn’t sure. I want dental included. I don’t take any medication. I sent you a DM. I think it will be between Royal and Max.
Both Royal and Max are very good. There is only very basic dental included. For additional dental it is extra.
Also check where you live to see if any dentists take insurance. Where we are in the campo there are no dentists take the insurance and we have to travel for 1 hour so we just pay cash . When we did go to one dentist that took insurance they charged us double so we ended up paying the same amount of cash as if we didnt have the insurance. Dentists are not that expensive.
My suggestion is to find a good dentist near you that does take insurance and get some quotations of what you would pay with insurance. Then you can decide if it is worth it. A dental plan might be an extra 600 to 800 peso a month so it is worth checking it out first.

I live in Las Terrenas but lived over 10 years in Santo Domingo so I have a routine of coming into the capital for business and errands.

I wrote to Hospiten asking if they take Plan Royal and they said no. I am surprised about that. But xtraveller was at Cedimat. That will do but I get confused about this and tricky in an emergency.

Last year 1 of December I changed to the most basic plan at Humano from a very expensive one I had including international. For the basic plan called Plan Esencial I paid RD 9,384. I did before traveling to Denmark where I thought I was going to stay longer but ended up staying just three months. Back here in the DR I went once to the doctor at Abel Gonzales and my insurance didn’t cover it. I wonder now what it covers at all. I am considering renewing and getting the Plan Royal from Humano. Does anybody know this plan ? I understand it covers dental.

Which is the cheap ones and which the expensive ones ? Where does that line go ? I would think the Plan Royal is rather expensive

I have decided to look at different insurances and compare them and can post some of my findings here. I find that it is important to first now which clinic or clinics you want to be attended at and then secondary decide on the insurance plan.

I found the dental insurance on the Monumental plans are useless. Tried using it 3 times at 3 dentists to no avail.

What was well covered were some blood and ultrasound tests I had done in Cabarete. But taking the blood tests to the specialist in Bournigal, she decided a fresh test was needed, despite the first one being only 10 days prior.(took that long to get on her schedule ).

I declined more tests but I wonder how many insurance companies pay for the testing ping pong the doctors like to send patients on? Seems they would balk at countless blood, urine and ultra sounds weeks apart.

My cleaning lady was requested to get a 4th ultrasound in 3 months - (she has no insurance) - I have been helping her but I refused to pay for her doctor's last testing request which was two weeks after her 3rd ultrasound. And having seen the poor image quality of her tests they seemed pointless.

In Santo Domingo I have during the years tried Hospiten and Abel Gonzales. Hospiten I feel is a bit to much business sending you around for unnecessary tests. Abel Gonzales is a bit old. I want to go and check out Cedimat. Have a checkup and then pick an insurance that works with them. I think that may be a good approach.

Why not seek out and take the advice of the person on the board that actually sells medical insurance and would have up to date information?
