Good morning GG. I never ceases to amaze me how the DR government can make expat car import rules so restrictive and let death traps navigate the DR road without hindrance. I rarely see antique cars on the DR roads. In 14 years I’ve come across a 77 Corvette in decent condition, a ratty MGB and two old LandRovers on the North coast. How restrictive are the antique vehicle import reps for expats and have you ever seen antique cars for sale in the DR?
They are restrictions for importing older vehicles. They need to be at least 30 years old, in very good condition, be approved by the president of the local classic car club and you have to pay a flat tax rate that I think is still USD$3000.
I subscribe to Barn Finds and Bring a Trailer and I have been tempted more than once, but that 3K tax always makes me think twice, plus I have 3 vehicles already.
There are quite a few classic cars here in very good condition and there are clubs that have their own facebook page.
They do caravan trips monthly to different towns to show off their cars.
The owner of CCN has around 10 cars parked in the underground parking lot at Jumbo Luperon.
The owner of Ferreteria Americana has a few parked in the underground garage as well.
