your insurance carrier has no obligation to pursue the case in the event that you also only have liability insurance. i did file a police report, and notified my carrier, simply for the record. it is the duty of the adverse carrier, upon notification, to make a decision within 30 days, and to notify the complainant , in writing, about the nature of the decision, and its cause. they have to let me know why they are not paying my claim, or i can bring a bad faith action against them.

Gorgon,

That depends if the DR is a 'no fault' insurance or not. I don't know if they are... in case of 'no fault' insurance your company pays, there is no back and forth between the companies.

From what I understand from JD the DR might be characterised as a 'no fault' environment even if technically this is not so.

It therefore follows that you should be on to your insurer to get a result - even against logic

I have always thought that a vehicle tax, in any country, is just unnecessary bureaucracy. It makes more sense to me to collect it via additional fuel tax. That way, nobody can avoid paying it and those who use the roads most and have the most inefficient vehicles pay most.

It is pretty shocking to go from 1.200 pesos to 3.700 in one year, you have to admit. That's for my 2007 Toyota Corolla....think I could appeal because of all the body damage? Just kidding....

Fricken LADRONES! Can these pieces of crap not find somewhere else to steal from?!?! Almost a 100 USD for an 11 year old car?!?!?

Welp, I guess here goes another year of no marbete, no revista, and no drivers license, esquivando AMETs and driving around with eyes on a swivel. Gah, if I wasnt so damn poor I wouldve left this hell hole years ago.

Its still boils down to the government not being responsible with the taxes they collect! That makes the new tax increase difficult to accept!

try 2000 to 16,000....

my heart is not moved. that means the car is worth 1.600.000 pesos. surely someone who has a car worth nearly 40k dollars can spend 16k pesos a year.

talking about the biggest difference, i know a guy who has rolls royce phantom, he must have paid only few thousand pesos so far, from this year it will be 125k pesos or so. :paranoid:

Well, if you don't like this tax.....just wait till you see the proposed "new increases in revenue funding" the IMF has put forth before it provides further "loans" to the DR.....or the current project of categorizing/indexing all property so that the owners can be more "appropriately" taxed.

New taxes are the end result of a system that 1) overspends beyond its limits with no concurrent increase in economic activity to support that spending 2) and/or, does not maximize the current collected dollars received., i.e. revenues lost through fraud, waste, corruption.

You cannot tax your way to prosperity (unless of course you are one of the chosen politicos)....and the sooner the people of the DR recognize this and demand accountability from their elected officials, the better off they will be. While I realize that is wishful thinking, one can always hope.

Respectfully,

Maybe less than a routine fine tuning for that car....

My wife drives a Toyota RAF4 4x4, 1997. DGII releases the value at about 88.000 DOP. At Supercarros.com they cost about 200.000 – 250.000 DOP. In the past years we always paid 1200 DOP. Now it should be 880 DOP?

In 1998 I bought a Nissan Patrol 2.8 TD from 1996. DGII starts releasing the value from 1997, so I guess that we are the lucky ones?

But maybe I should prepare myself for the coming fight about this with these very bright geniuses.

No car will pay less than 1,200. That's the minimum.

nope. there is a minimum, regardless of the car value: 1200 pesos.

Wow, I just checked the car we're shipping down - will be $8250 a year for marbete. Ouch.

When does the year begin and end for marbetes? We're shipping it down in December.

that is not necessarily correct, since no-fault really does not concern itself with minor property damage suits. it is intended as an expense reduction technique, and is more often than not concerned with bodily injury cases.

the DR is most certainly not a no-fault environment. it could never work here. it would drive expense ratios through the roof.
