i was just in sosua looks like the same sh@@ Hole to me pal....
Poor you who has to go to a place that you dislike so much.. How did you end up in that situation?
i was just in sosua looks like the same sh@@ Hole to me pal....
I don't normally trash sosua. I spend a fair amount of time there, so that wouldn't make sense. But I do speak up (admittedly sometimes smart alecky) about the beach. I used to enjoy going to playa sosua, and enjoyed having a meal, just watching the water. Till a friend and I happened to hike in thru the woods (not playa media) and saw all the little shacks out behind the vendor shacks. There's a whole little village back there. I'm guessing there must be 20 to 30 shallow dug outhouse type toilets back there. That's not the kind of place I want to eat a meal. Or go in the water. I have this thing about flies landing on my food, and wondering what they might have been just previous to finding my dinner. I can't eat at the beach anymore.
No, never seen any oozing. That's just me being a smart aleck - my apologies. But, if you go up under the tree canopy after a hard rain, you can def smell the human slop waste wafting up.
It is what it is.
I actually saw a short video clip a few years back of what's "behind the curtain"/behind the vendor shacks, I can't remember if it was from Frank12?
There was a story a while back of a COW falling through the Roof of one of the restaurant Shacks ?
I cant even GUESS how such a thing is even possible ? , i cant even picture the Geometry behind that .
That sounds like something Frank12 would report on.
really? you never heard that?
that is common knowledge in POP. there is one caseta where Dominicans will patronize...it is the first one in Long Beach, called Marola's. they sell platos del dia, and sancocho, and play local music. it is a local joint, by nature. the others, which attract the expat crowds, do not get the Dominicans who are upwardly mobile. the bank people, and the insurance types, do not do the malecon thing..
I know for sure that almost all Dominicans hate the reputation of Sosua.
Let's take a step back for a second, even if Sosua didn't have the "reputation" it has, if you were a Dominican with a few bucks why would you go? If you take the town as is, and remove all that gives the reputation, what is there? A beach, and a few restaurants...
Considering:
1) If you want to go to a nice beach theres, Punta Cana, Playa Rincón, Cayo Levantado, and the list goes on...
2) Golf? No golf in Sosua, so thats a no-go
3) Water Sports, pretty much non-existent, unless you have a thing for Banana boat rides
4) Eco attractions, also non-existent
5) Not a lot, if anything, that is kid oriented, a water slide at Ocean village is about it.
So Ultimately, it's not really the "reputation" that doesn't bring them, there is pretty much nothing else to do...
Do you know where I can access this definitive source that states this?
Agreed as Sosua is now and is hated by Dominicans. It also keeps well do to Dominicans from investing in things like golf courses, water parks, etc because of the bad reputation. A chicken and egg problem if you can get my point. Clean it up and development is not assured, but at least it opens up possibilities. Those amenities exist and were developed by locals in other areas of the island.
Nope, you will have to take my word on it. Or just disagree and not worry about it at all.
It is "Common Knowledge" among my family here, all Dominicans, to refer to a term used by Gorgon his point on well to do Dominicans not frequenting gringo casitas in POP.
Ah, your family represents all 10,889,648 as of Tuesday, July 24, 2018, based on the latest United Nations estimates, good to know...
As I said, I understand it to be true without question. So do others who live full time among Dominicans. I can understand skepticism on the point.
You can add the more than a million in NY City, New Jersey region as well.
Weird, my Dominican girlfriend doesn't bad mouth Sosua, she must be right, because shes Dominican...
Do you know where I can access this definitive source that states this?
She is entitled to have a minority opinion, no question about it. NALS could even set up a poll, but unfortunately not that many Dominicans are on DR1.
Let me guess...
did you two meet in Sosua ?
