I am braving Playa Sosua today. It's a great beach day, and I will be interested to see how much they've ruined Playa Sosúa. I have been very opposed to the project from the beginning, so we shall see.
Do you expect to take any pictures?

Just returned from the beach and I can report that Sunday at the beach is pretty much the same as any other day. Quiet.

According to the video, all of the demolished shacks were on the south half of the beach with most of those being closer to the Charamicos end.

No, I didn't expect to and I didn't. I don't know how to add pictures to this platform, anyway.

Despite it being a perfect beach day, my beach day was a bit of a letdown. Entering from the Batey side, they've done something rather bizarre: leaving the track and passing through the (very few) remaining trees, there's a built up mound of sand. I mean, a mound about 4 feet high. For beach restoration? Storm protections? Re-directing water? No idea. It goes on for quite a while and then evens out around the old lifeguard station. It makes actually arriving at the shoreline something of a challenge, and since everyone is clambering over it, I don't think it's going to last very long.

And maybe it was low tide, I don't know, but the water was preternaturally calm. The drop off is relatively mild. The beach experience was compromised by blasting music from one of the boats. The beach was strangely un-busy, especially for a Sunday.

I saw a recent picture in the news from an aerial view over Sosua. I was blown away by how many boats were anchored throughout the bay. Never more than 3 or 4 when I lived up there back in 2013. Way different now.

Very true, and they wonder why the corals are so damaged in this area. The tour and banana boat guys are also don't follow the route in/out any more, but cruise along the beach, sometimes very close to people and kids in the water, looking for customer, they for sure hit somebody one of these days...!

Any of them fishing boats? They're trying to get rid of them in Luperon.

The mound is not man made, it appeared after the recent torrential rains and flooding. I posted a reel that went viral of it the day after it appeared on my Instagram business page

Is there any real progress being made on the plazas? Perhaps they will be done in a couple of years?

Is this a rhetorical question ? :D

I saw some progress but only God knows whether they will be done in 2 years. The hill they dug up across the new construction, they seem to have given up on it. I posted some photos a few weeks ago in this thread
