In other news, Mayor of Sosua to ban any swimwear from beach that is tight fitting or reveals too much skin to avoid giving family tourists a bad impression of the town..

Last time i was in an enclosed bar in Sosua was D'Latinos years ago and pepper spray was let off in the place. Never again. Closing in the bars/clubs IMHO makes them a danger. One way in and out does not work for me.

Closing the fronts of bars and going after Johns and Hookers is hardly the same as closing beach front access to Sosua Beach.

I have seen not one word about closing the beach front access or restricting access to Sosua beach.

Back to the hooker discussion...

Closing the beach at both ends and charging was Robert's suggestion.
Charging an entrance fee to Cartagena's old town would not go over well either.
I'm drinking a beer watching the street action, as one does in any European street caf? or bar.
The last thing I want is to be in an enclosed bar in the tropics, defeats the whole point of being there.
Let's see if the developers achieve the desired return and influx of tourism.
Some of the retirees posting here just want a quiet life nothing wrong with that, maybe Sun City AZ. or Coral Gables FL would've been a better choice.

Wonder if Iliana knows the Joni Mitchell song???

They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot SPOT
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
'Til it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot $$$

Not to mention the real danger of fire in bars with thatched roofs. It's not like there are fire extinguishers or sprinkler systems.

You bring up a good point. With all of this enclosing of bars....are the safety/fire codes going to be adhered too...do any safety/fire codes exist? I stopped going upstairs to Classico because they only had one real exit....this stuff scares me.

There is a door to the left of the bathrooms in the back just in case you need to get out fast.
That "Alarm" sign is a fake.

That back exit is never accessible as there are so many girls packed around the banos...I knew it was there but I never considered it a viable exit. Image an emergency in that place when it is above capacity with all those stairs and high heals?

There are two exits at classicos. The main front exit and a side exit to the left side. Both full size stairs.

Does the new "bylaw" ask for every bar in town to be closed in or is it just meant for the "red light" district of town?

What about a bar like Jolly Rogers?

I think that the Jolly Roger would be classified as a restaurant and is therefore exempt. Having said that D'Latin sells food and is already starting the dreaded enclosure. When they finish, hopefully the clientele will vote with their feet and take their beer money elsewhere.

Rumba also has a Restaurant attached to it. There are quite a few small bars around town that are not enclosed....what happens with them? Check Point comes to mind.

Anyone can confirm the rumors that Peter and his wife from Pasions are out of jail now?

There is another side exit opposite side of the club. As you walk in along the left side of the club passes the side bar is an exit. That's where the smokers go outside to smoke.
So there is three because I forgot about the bano exit, and I used that one when someone let off a smoke bomb one night. It lets out by the downstairs bathrooms.

Yes they are out. Paid a big fine. Not sure what will come of Passions. I'm guessing they will open back up and probably not change much but that is only a guess.

How unfortunate. I find it entertaining. I like watching people walking by. The DR is not the only place to have prostitution. We have found no problems at all and we have a 9 year old. We don't hesitate walking down PC with her.

I heard Rumba is also building a frame to be closed in.

Yes they have put the frames yesterday but when I spoke to the owner he said he's not sure when they actually have to put the glass and close it off - hoping never... !

Imagine how hot, loud and smokey it will get inside, fortunately the side to the parking and the back don't have to be closed off.

Not sure what would the point of this be, shoe-shine boys, punters, chicas and their chulos (aka motoconchos) were all on the pavement and even in street last night, almost filled it up, so I guess those thousands of family tourists will have a hell of a job getting through in the first place let alone seeing what's going on inside the bar !!!?
