Before I saw the videos, I was already betting the truck driver was at fault. They are, bar none, the most reckless drivers in a country that is full of reckless drivers. How could he not possibly see that traffic was backed up and moving slowly? I'm sure it was way overloaded and the brakes next to useless.
As every time we're on the road, my dear wife kindly puts it when she sees a truck: Stay far away, they are big, know this, do what they want and were born without any brains...
I have never had any respect towards truck drivers in the DR... And now this thread did not really help this... RIP all the victims...
When my father-in-law was in his 20s, he used to drive a carrito in the capital (this was before he saved up a lot and put up his own company in POP), that was enough traffic for him, has not driven anything motorized for 30+ years... My wife says he is in fact afraid of driving... I have a huge respect for him...
