Before I saw the videos, I was already betting the truck driver was at fault. They are, bar none, the most reckless drivers in a country that is full of reckless drivers. How could he not possibly see that traffic was backed up and moving slowly? I'm sure it was way overloaded and the brakes next to useless.

I bet he was checking his phone. Although shocking, events like these do not surprise me much and that is sad to conclude.
Alcohol.
Drugs.
Faulty Equipment.
Unqualified Driver.
Speeding
Reckless Behavior.
Improper Training.
Carelessness.
Cell Phone.
No Respect for fellow drivers.
Macho Attitude.

Feel free to add to the list of reasons why do not drive in this country.

As every time we're on the road, my dear wife kindly puts it when she sees a truck: Stay far away, they are big, know this, do what they want and were born without any brains...

I have never had any respect towards truck drivers in the DR... And now this thread did not really help this... RIP all the victims...

When my father-in-law was in his 20s, he used to drive a carrito in the capital (this was before he saved up a lot and put up his own company in POP), that was enough traffic for him, has not driven anything motorized for 30+ years... My wife says he is in fact afraid of driving... I have a huge respect for him...

Motos with a death wish at every possible angle.
Lack of proper traffic infrastructure.
Lack of consequences for traffic violations.

I feel more vulnerable in a guagua than driving myself. The saddest part is that this is the only option for many Dominicans. The country wouldn't function without the guaguas or the people who rely on them every day.
It’s sad every time this happens.

RIP. Perhaps AMET should focus more on trucks and truck drivers than pointing speed guns on the highway. I´d rather drive myself than jump in a Voladora.
numerous trucks crash on the hill leaving Jarabacoa, mainly due to over speeding and poor brakes. I like Josh try to stay as far away from trucks as possible.

that might be the craziest thing I have heard about at a crash scene.
This type of behavior is normal.
It's also not uncommon for the locals to rob accident victims or the deceased of their personal belongings. I will not be surprised at all if we learn in a few days it happened here as well.

They are just cleaning up the crash site. I don't think the cement company is going to come and clean it up. Someone has to do it. And why not make a little cash on the side selling the cement.
certainly, you are joking.

They still can't account for the bus driver. They think he may still be in the dirt.

That's the driver of the truck. He's being held in Casa de Conductor for now.
