Yea, ...sure, it'll be just like Bermuda, except with casinos, chicas and street vendersShort answer: No. They'll be some starts and stops, but don't let that fool you into thinking it will be business as usual.

If you have to ask about the High Water mark,i would say for years, may be stretching it 2000 to 2006,were considered good years.I liked it 1995 to 2000,before Jimmy Dr and the likes of Cuba Dave.I have lived and worked ( legally) here on and off for years. But I still do have a tourist opinion as it relates to Sosua as I do not live there just visit and enjoy it. Further, I never knew the glory days have ever left, it just seems more civil to me.

After the election,we drove to Barahona with family,to busy playing with the Grand kids. You're back I see.
I do miss the carne ensalada.Running the Food trucks off in Sosua was a Major Mistake ..
People really looked forward to those greezy sammiches at 3 am, after a night of drinking and dancing ..
it added atmosphere to the Street and gave it personality .
The people running Sosua for the last Decade have made one mistake after another .
well I am at the stage in my life I prefer to eat at table cloth restaurants ie. casa21,Bliss, Margot etc. No plastic chairs or picnic tables for moi. Dont want to risk my intestines from Fausto making a taco in the back of a 1997 ford econoline with no place to wash his hands. Having said that I did partake when I was younger. Here lies one of the "cultural" quandaries in Sosua. food trucks, beach casita's , motos street vendors (chicas) all add to the Sosua ambiance. However does anyone really think that is what people are looking for when they walk out of a Ritz or W property.

The W if they ever build it is in Cabarete and the Ritz is well further East neither remotely near Sosua.
Great point though🙄

could you please expound on "change" as we have heard this before. Like the report of complete transformation of the town when the cruise ship port opened in Puerta Plata. Are you simple saying less chicas, less motos and that is the "change' or are you suggesting something more grand? There's a lot more in the works then just those two projects. Pedro Clisante will not return to it's old ways just because some "like" it the way it was.
Change is difficult for some.

True - this Covid has collapsed a lot of getaway dreams.
Many businesses will never recover and ask yourself would you want to invest (buy property) in Sosua knowing that you could be stuck after the next fabricated pandemic comes - when your lifestyle was supposed to allow you to periodically return to your original country to see family, friends or attend to other business ?
I think being able to evacuate in a pack suitcase and run will be the modus operandi going forward for expats and a pricey automobile or a large villa or condo, with significant monthly maintenance fees, definitely is something that could keep you stuck 'in Paradise Island" longer than you care to stay or represent a loss of your retirement nest egg. Many eggs have made omelettes here.
Of the businesses that have closed and owners left, and I know of two restaurant/bars for certain - who is going to come to invest and reopen those shuttered facilities ?
I applaud the business that remain and are surviving, but you would have to be an absolute moron to come into the DR as an expat and think you were going to reinvent the wheel and make a good living with a bar or restaurant - you would likely make less than a decent looking street chica
If you dont mind me asking , ( one gringo married to a dominicana to another, i am guessing) ....
Is your wife a " Suzy from Ohio" , or a Dominicana , born in the DR ?
cuz we dont see too many Bobby and Suzies from Ohio , posting in here, so im just curious ..
There is no Ritz nor W property in Sosua as it pertains to this particular thread. That would be Cabarete for the Ritz Carlton Reserve and the W, pending the ending of the Covidic period and if construction is done.well I am at the stage in my life I prefer to eat at table cloth restaurants ie. casa21,Bliss, Margot etc. No plastic chairs or picnic tables for moi. So what is the construction progress like for the W and the Ritz? Are they under construction? There is no Ritz nor W property in Sosua as it pertains to this particular thread. Sosua would be The Marriott Beach Club. Already there, as I understand it.
Unless of course you are talking about the entire Municipio of Sosua...
As far and I know and my info is dated, the W had the land cleared and some road work and clearing was done for the Ritz Carlton Reserve and then some environmental people protested.. Others who are getting out and might know more about the current situations. That is about Cabarete, unless of course we are talking about the Municipio of Sosua....So what is the construction progress like for the W and the Ritz? Are they under construction?
She is not a Suzy from Ohio and I am not a Bobby from Ohio .
She is from a well known generational family right here in Sosua. And I look the part of Dominican, speak spanish fluently and therefore have mostly avoided the dreaded Ohio gringo surcharge tax.
I'm sure you look dominican. I bet no one can tellShe is not a Suzy from Ohio and I am not a Bobby from Ohio .

First came here in 1989. I bought in 1990, but not living permanently here until 2007. I can tell you that until 2007 those were really good years.
