How does sexuality have anything to do with a job?

I know lots of those gays and they don't give a rats ass who is gay and certainly don't try to make people be gay!

In the current case, it's not so much sexuality as in "you'll do well in accepting anyone I ever want to send your way, little colony" message it gives. It reeks with imperial imposition, like in the times of John Bartlow Martin.

Just because gay people travel around does not mean they are imposing their beliefs on other people. I guess they just want to live where they want.
I have never understood why people would dislike people because of race, sexuality, religion etc I think it is really odd. People are just people...

Sexuality actually doesn't matter in porn either, I know a lot of straight guys who do gay porn b/c it pays way more.

Every culture on Earth has its rules, things it accepts and things it doesn't. Did you know cows are sacred in India? My great grandfather didn't, and he made the mistake of slapping one while he was there during WW1. Some local Indians saw my great grandfather slap a cow and they wanted to kill the guy.

Foreign restaurants in India know not to serve any kind of beef in their food. Its about respecting the culture of other groups. Just because Americans are open to homosexuality doesn't mean Dominicans are. And for them to send an openly gay ambassador and gloat about it in the press is just as bad as McDonald's opening a restuarant in New Delhi and serving beef hamburgers despite the views Indians have towards cows.

Exactly. This whole thing with the American ambassador reeks of colonialism. The guy could have kept his sexuality to himself, yet he rubs it in the faces of Dominicans. This is where I have a problem with it.

That response seemed to have more to do with Abortion...Pro choice....

Under extreme circumstances abortion should be allowed, but only under extreme circumstances, not "oops I was irresponsible and couldn't keep my legs closed or use protection and now I have a kid and I'm going to take the easy way out and kill it."

When I have a child it is going to be because I want it, but even if I accidentally got a girl pregnant I would man up and raise the child.

Well I strongly disagree with you on this too, I don't think men even have the right to speak about abortion.
Good that you wouldn't punk out and not take care of your kid like MANY do!! I respect that!

The other thing I like about the DR is the low energy cost. The power bills I've gotten here in the DR are some of the lowest I've ever had(this month my power bill is a cool $14). There is no way you will get a $14 power bill in the USA especially if you live in the North where it gets ridiculously cold during the winter. Living here in the DR I don't "dread" getting my monthly power bill like I do in the USA. Usually when I open my power bill here in the DR a big smile appears on my face.

Why not? Women can't make babies by themselves. See, this brings me to another reason I like living in the DR, because the DR is a macho society where men still call the shots. People here on DR1 have complained about Dominican machismo but I don't see Dominican men acting any different than men are supposed to act. Women have too much power in the USA, you forget it takes a man and woman to conceive and without the man's sperm there is no baby so yes men should have a say so regarding abortion.

If I've noticed anything since living here in the DR, I've noticed that Dominican women act far more feminine than American women. When I first arrived here I was amazed by how feminine Dominican women were, quite a culture shock. But regarding Dominican men I haven't noticed anything out of the usual, I think Dominican machismo is overrated.

How old are you DS? Where were you brought up? I find people like you really fascinating. I am not joking either, I have never been exposed to views like yours before.

Only hind? hold the cow un high regard, as they work forma little and produce milk un exchange for little. Id be surprised that a man would be killed for slapping a cow, cows work that is how you would get them to move, unless they offer sugar en top of a pretty please.

I'm in my early 30s. I was raised in the Southern USA(aka the Bible Belt). I'm not Christian but I was raised my them and some things stick with you. This is why I'm generally anti-abortion and anti gay marriage. This is not to say I'm a nice guy because I'm not(I do many things both Christians and my family would disapprove of). But ending the life of a baby is a serious issue that should not be taken lightly.

Anyway, I feel very comfortable here in the DR, more comfortable than in the USA. I'm somewhat jealous of Dominicans because they have a large island to themselves and unlike African Americans unity comes to them naturally (a result of living on an island surrounded by water). I will always be an outsider because I wasn't born here but when my children are born here they will be accepted as Dominican and will get the chance I never had, to grow up in a country where they feel a true national identity, where they can be a part of the majority as opposed to being an oppressed minority.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but knowing that Adam and Steve MIGHT have an official marriage license could not possibly affect my enjoyment of life in any conceivable way. No couple I know (gay or straight) has ever shown me a marriage license, nor have I asked, nor do I care.

14 dollar hydro bills are only because it is not metered.
Ask CC about his luz bills, they are through the roof but he is living in the DR with first world AC.
His luz bills are higher than mine in Toronto.

My electric bill was only $14 this month, last month it was $16. The maintenance guy in our complex explained to me that if I keep the hot water heater off most of the time the bill would fall, and it did. Now I only turn on the hot water when I need to take a shower(otherwise I just use cold water). The highest bill I got in the DR was $90, but that was extreme and because of the water heater.

I don't use AC here, I only use the ceiling fan. The ceiling fan is more than enough to keep me cool, AC for me is unnecessary and would also increase the bill. Electricity in the USA is nuts, in the dead of winter I hear of New Yorkers paying over $1,000, and don't get me started on healthcare costs. When I lived in the USA I was scared to go to the hospital if I got sick, just getting your teeth cleaned there was $300. I'm still wary of getting sick here in the DR but at least I won't be hit with massive bill like the U.S. I've been to the hospital three times since moving to the DR and I haven't spent more than about $100 total. Had it been the USA it would probably be close to $1,000.

Healthcare costs in the USA routinely wipe out Americans financially. Even though the costs are low here in the DR I have made it my responsibility to exercise hard regularly and eat good food. As I write this post I'm finishing up a plate of Broccoli and Cheese(I eat Broccoli once a week and it is a super food). I also eat lots of garlicc(another super food), and onions. I refuse to ride on motoconchos because they're dangerous, overpriced, and walking is one of the best exercises you can perform(I walk at least two miles a week here in the DR, I refuse to drive at all).

A good question would be where does he live, cuz' in this city (SDQ) the only way you could get a cheap electric bill while having the habits of an inhabitant of a first world country is living in a barrio. Over here in the Fernandez urbanization, a lifestyle like that implies bills through the roof and then some.

Thank you for answering my question, I assumed Southern USA. If the world had all the same views it would be a boring boring world. Keep on keeping on and enjoy the DR! It's good that you have found a place to be comfortable in!
