jj, I've been thinking about buying a couple myself. Still not convinced though. If I had one I'd probably start spending time up north again.

I have been thinking about it for years as well. Then after a long weekend I look forward to normalcy. I can only handle the freak show for a few days.

How soon do the places that lost the law suit have before they have to close up shop on that small part of Pedro Clisante?

Blue Collar Town in New Jersey
They're implementing zoning. Normally a town would "grandfather" a practice that allowed the business or homeowner to continue what they were doing - since the business and the working girls were there prior to the zoning change. In the case of working girls in an area that's no longer zoned for it, that won't work - will it? So the businesses have to comply. Or move to the area zoned for it. It's really that simple.

And it's not like this happened overnight. A lot of people knew this was coming 10+ years ago.

Not to contradict myself , but yeagh, a LOT of people knew CHANGE was coming.. but me personally i thought they would just charge a Higher Fee to OPERATE under their Noses ... they did however stop tolerating Foreigners from blatantly owning such Clubs which attract the ladies .
As you may recall I had this convo with one of the most Infamous owners on PC ( u know who) ... he got so Angry ( " B isht, this is a W* e town it will always be a W*** town" ) , he took his drink and walked away ... lol
couple months later he was put completely out of business .. never to reopen . His wife ( who is Dominican) still operates as a " legit" Bar/ Restaurant owner .
So yeagh , change WAS coming ,..but 10 years later it really still has NOT happened ..

this is why we are now asking , WHERE are these Investors , & when ?
no offense to your theory .. its a good one for sure.

The investors have been waiting until the town was prepared to receive them. Seems pretty obvious if you think about it.

But now the court has spoken and upheld the zoning, the President has given his blessing and financial support and the tourist associations are on board.

No comparison between the climate for investors today and any time during the past 10 years

I feel sorry for the condo owners in this area, there are some nice buildings.
Investment value down, they weren't looking to live in nightlife heaven.
They probably shouldn't have bought in a place where "nightlife heaven" has been part of the scene for decades, if they didn't want it.

The accurate comparison has been made before to the people who buy Cheap Land next to a Farm or a Racetrack... Build their DREAM house, on the cheap , and then proceed to ORGANIZE against The Farmer who they claim has excessive Odor from his Cow Manure, or demand the Racetrack be closed down because of the Excess Traffic and Noise on race day .
same exact people ..

Those people bought down at that end of PC to get away from the main scene in town. I doubt many condo and home owners will be affected. The city will just rezone as necessary to keep the action in a relatively confined area.

To be completely sure to get away from that scene wouldn’t you buy somewhere completely different. Like another town maybe.

Wasn't it you and several others that said this scene can be found in any town in the DR? To be completely sure, I think you need to pick another country.

To some degree you are right. All the tourist towns in the DR has some of it. Sosua, Boca Chica and maybe an area of Bavaro have it more extreme. The ones who really want to get really really away from it have to pick CDC or Punta Cana Resort or something like that. Or pick another country.

Same could be said for anywhere there is new community in the world running out of land and population growing ..

While that's true, how about the people that suddenly find out that the government wants to put in a landfill, wind farm, prison, microwave towers, or waste processing facility next to where they live? I think what's happening in Sosua is more similar to that.

As a Boca Chica resident for over 2 years, I disagree. There's an area when the putas hang and it's easy to just avoid it. I can't remember the last time I was prop'd by a puta. Hopefully the streak continues.

I've always said I thought the action in the new "Red Light District will be a shell of it's former self. And I think that was the plan all along. Don't forget, somebody came up with a good chunk of money to build a new Police Station down there. I think they'll keep tight reins on that end of town.

I agree. It's not going to remotely resemble the old PC in town.
