Todays exchange rate, 2003-July 2008...archive only

Please tell me where is the best location to exchange USD in the Sosua area. I am talking about $ 5,000+. Thanks

The odds are that the three best places in Sosua will be the Western Union office (Vimenca), the Eurobank or Banco Santa Cruz. When shopping the best rates, it pays to mention the quantity you want to exchange. When we changed $10,000 US on Friday at Western Union, the board showed 40.5 as their rate, but the young lady behind the counter called Santo Domingo to get us the 40.7 rate.

I got 40.50 yesterday at the Western Union office, Remsas Vimenca.
With $5000 I would not use any of the small cambios. There is a good, professional exchange bank a couple of doors up from Eddy's, between Eddy's and City Hall that we use a lot. But I think even they were paying less than Vimenca yesterday. Some others have posted that the banks here are now offering competitive rates, too. You really need to use your feet and stop in the banks, that exchange house, and Vimenca and ask their rate for the day before plunking down the money to get the best deal.

Since I changed 1000 US yesterday afternoon at 40.5,I "lost" 1000 pesos!!!
45to 1 may not be as far away as I thought,(NEXT YEAR).At 45 I'll change another 1000.If you are changing more than 5000 US TELL them you want 1 peso higher than the posted rate,TAKE .5 to .75 higher! Cris
