Looks like that to me because he has the sauce pot. Can't see the ketchup though? I'm guessing your comment wasn't responded to because many posters probably won't have tried an ambulant hard-boiled egg............

eat them al the time - only 5RD$ including the serviette and squirt of lime!

I have two lesbian hens that have set up home together and seem to be taking it in turns to lay eggs around the garden.
My question is how long can an egg be left in the sun before it become inedible, and how can you tell if its fit for consumption, the poor things are trying to hatch them even though there is no sign of a daddy

If it has not been fertilized you can eat as soon as you see it. In the sun isnt good but unless they are popping them out all day you can collect them in the morning. You can make a hut for your hens to nest in. Something like a small dog house and put one bird in each or keep them together but with a partition.

And another thing you should do is introduce a rooster(gallo) into the area. A large one. Not a fighting bird but a "dude", you know? Propagation. When they get old its 9 piece time, so with one male you can get some chicks keep the farm going.

The Chinese eat '100 year old' eggs - more like 100 day actually. They're preserved in a mixture of clay, ash, lime, salt and rice and eaten with ginger & considered a delicacy. When I visited China years ago I was offered a taste in a rural village & didn't like to turn it down. I survived the experience! jr, look up century eggs. Some pics here:
Century Egg ? Would You Eat One?

So, if you want to pursue it, you have a possible idea for a new business in Sosua..............:cheeky:

Still looks better than balut.

never bought eggs anywhere here refrigerated.
and of course mine stay where they are, in the jeans.
henns who wanna refrigerate 'em get in trouble, lesbian or not.
jr,
collect them in the morning before the sun starts a hot sweep, they will be fine.
and never be so sure that there's no Rooster around,
we're on the Isle,
so where there are Chics or henns there isn't very far a Rooster/Egg Expert,
it's the Isle, lol
cheers
Mike

There is nothing wrong with eating fertilized eggs! Just eat them as fresh as possible... before they hatch :D

I'd pay extra to get fertilized eggs! They're better than steroids!

I start to suspect ol' JR is having a little critter issue... first the lizards in his bed and now them chicken! Can't wait to hear what it'll be next. :p
Hey JR, IF you ever discover any cows popping up somewhere in your backyard, I'm in the market for fresh raw milk from a trusted source too. Truly!

...........Eggs that are left out in room temperature for more than an hour can begin bacteria growth, they should be refridgerated quickly after being laid.
I have seen here in Santiago pickup trucks cruising the barrios with stacks and stacks of eggs in the back being sold to individuals and corner stores.

They are in the hot tropical sun for hours and hours.

When I was a little girl my maternal grandparents operated a farm in upstate NY - growing primarily onions, lettuce, etc. They had cows and chickens too, and I can remember my grandfather sitting at the big dining room table 'candle-ing' the eggs and cleaning them with something that I remember looking like the big erasers teachers used. I don't remember what he did with the eggs that had the 'fertile' spot. I remember he had a machine in the smaller coop that would hatch eggs in lieu of a chicken sitting on them....

I ask because about 10 years ago we used to buy incredible eggs from a guy my husband knew from the casino - he had a lot of chickens. At the time I worked at a Hebrew Day School and once people found out everyone wanted the eggs. He'd bring 10-20 dozen a week to the school. The rabbi's wife was very concerned about them being candled because - if I remember correctly - they weren't kosher if they were fertile. ???

So - are all eggs sold in US supermarkets checked somehow to see if they are fertile? How about in DR? Anyone???

Nine fresh eggs brought in from the chicken field this morning.... don't test with candle and 99% are great with the odd one which goes to the dogs. Milk is currently from the dairy farm nearby until Flora gives birth to a calf later in the year.

Candling eggs:

Since everybody now is into mentioning candling eggs, I had to look up what that means. Best site I found:
Candling Eggs - Back Yard Chickens

Also on how to tell fertile eggs apart from those which are not... in you frying pan:

(from: How to Tell if Your Chicken Eggs are Fertile ):
<!--INFOLINKS_ON--> Here it is: How to Actually Tell if your Eggs are Fertile

<!--INFOLINKS_OFF-->
<!--/module--> Is it Fertile or Infertile?

<!--INFOLINKS_ON-->
draft_lens7255682module59979402photo_1254169538fertileinfertile_Full.jpg

To check the fertility of an chicken egg, simply break an egg or egg(s) in a smooth bowl. You should see a white mark on the yolk. If you do not, use a spoon to flip the yolk over until you locate it.

If the egg is fertile, the white mark will be nearly perfectly round and in the center it will be yellow; it will resemble a donut. If it is infertile, the white mark will not be very round, and in most cases, smaller than that of the fertile mark. If the egg is not fertile, the 'white mark' is called a "blastodisc". If the egg is fertile, the 'white mark' it is called a "blastoderm", and this means that cell division, because of fertilization, occurred.

i love this thread,
not just of pure entertainment, noap,
it has a high educational level, too, and not just on eggs.
before thsi thread started me, the eastern fisherman, thought that Sosua and that whole area up there is just a cheap tourist ocean front where many american expats seek for german made weisswurst and build Mc Donalds,
but thatnks to this thread now i know that we have in sosua a large wide Farmland, he he he.
JR,
leave the milk cows to JD,
but if you get ever some good horses through your open gate just drop me a call, i have the saddles ready.
happy Father's Day to every Daddy on this eggie thread,
we celebrated that today here in Germany.
it's freaking cold,
looking forward to be back home on the Isle next wednesday,
and looking forward to what will next walk through JR's Gate or ly in his bed, lol.
cheers
Mike
