Danilo Diaz of the Political Committee of the Dominican Liberation Party denied the PLD was looking for an agreement with the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM). He denied speculation the party would back an amendment of the 2015 Constitution that would allow candidates to win with less than 50%+1 vote, and would habilitate Medina to run for a third term.

“Those are rumors that try to negatively impact the party, but the first one who opposes this is President Medina who is not interested in a new term because he understands that two terms were enough and he does not have running again on n his agenda,” Diaz stated in a PLD party press release.
