No guns, they would machetes or poison. The issue is the lack of regard for human life, not the method used.

For those of us who have lived the campo life in DR it is all too obvious that the machete poses the greatest risk to life. Witness the frequent altercations between machete carrying farmers after a hard days labor, and the chaos that ensues with all manner of person chasing each other around the barrio cutting each other in the process and more, and the thought of gun ownership is a distant memory.
This is a developing society and development of rule of law with greater controls on and without any additional weaponry is the best way forward. The developments of the past few days has clearly been a wake up call to some of the key players and let's hope something comes of all this because security of the population is very high on the political agenda.
