There is going to be a lot of rain/wind coming from the back side of Irma whipping around hitting the south coast.

Gloria Ceballos in the press conference this morning said that the worse is yet to come.

Still, all is dead quiet, hardly a drizzle in Santo Domingo at 10:38am

I want to thank everyone on DR1 for keeping up with the storm. The TV is always way behind and this is the only way we can know what is happening. Again thanks to all of yuou,

Ari Barshi of CaribWind is optimistic. Says the best case scenario of the forecasts has prevailed for Cabarete.

NHC report is out. Says center of Irma is now at 20.41N and 69.7W, and continues to move at a good speed of more than 25 kms to the west. FYI Cabarete is 19.4N and 70.2W.

From what we are seeing... the damages were preventable in most cases.
Trees that should have been pruned, houses that should not have been built in the 60 meters...

Lessons that need to be learned.

Wind is picking up quite a bit here is Sosua, also more rain, I think there is another 3 hours for the eye of the storm to be closest to us, so might get worse a bit more before getting better..... (windows almost closed)

Puerto Plata at 11.18 am. Still raining and not hard, no winds to speak about. Still have my windows open and I see some people on the streets. Neighbor in front of me in an Victorian house has both doors open towards the street as well. Power has been on all time.

By WhatsApp and phone I have surveyed the country:
Santo Domingo has some breeze and some drizzle.

Punta Cana some rains and breezes.

Coast Ambar has rains on and off with some breeze. A CDN (channel 37) report from Bobo, on the highway between Nagua and Cabrera, reported a "15-20 foot wave wiped out the fishing village." So it seems that there are some rogue waves out there.

Here in Santiago we have some breezes (what might be called "sultry??") and rains on and off.

Mike Fisher? How are things out east??

God bless us, one and all.....

HHAHAHAHA....Juan Bosch is a neighbor of ours...good to see he is experiencing the same thing we are...

Today my wife rescued a little bird...we'll see how that turns out.

HB,
wind started to pick up shortly after 2AM, it blew nice for long horus but nothing on dangerous levels, i would estimate 20 knots as a mximum wind we had, maybe less, some way higher gusts.
wit the sound of such wind i sleep like a Baby. went to bed shortly after 3AM or so with that nice sound and slept til 10AM this morning, hahaha.been up a few times to look for windows and the girls, but all been sleeping well and all been fine.
even 2lbs'er Lucy wasn't too much scared of the sound of the wind.
here in Cabeza de Toro/PUnta Cna ZERO Power OUT, not even for a second, nothing happened, all is fine.
even the rain been peanuts, nothing to write home about, to us Irma was a No Show.
now we are close to the point where POP will be on it's toughest hours.
all the ebst for everybody up there

Mike

Reporting from near Altamira on the top of the mountain ridge a couple miles west of the Tunnel (Navarrete-Puerto Plata highway) - we have had about three inches of rain since midnight. Have mostly less than 20 knots of wind, but occasional gusts to about 40 knots - north to northwest. Local (rural) power is off, but that is not unusual. At 1100, the center of Irma was 80 nm from our location. A few green leaves and twigs scattered around, but no problems to report.

Wind is really starting to pick up here now in the Capital, but pretty much nothing to report about so far.
