Geez we really need some expert opinion here. Whats up with Mike ? Has he fallen out with DR1 admin?? I would be interested to know if sahara dust is affecting the new system that is forming mid atlantic? If it was coming underneath Hispaniola I would be concerned But appears to be heading over the north of the island. Too soon to predict.

Because of its massive size and relative strength already it is hard to predict accurately where it will end up tracking.

We are on our own. Mike and DR1 are no longer friends. The only other person I know with some practical knowledge is Olly. He pops in from time to time. Expert opinions are going to be hard to come by from now on. I suppose we will have to rely on the NHC info but Mike was much better at advanced prognosis than the NHC. Mike's storm knowledge will be missed.

Mike is easy to find.

The DR1 news feed had an article entitled, "Gonzalo Petering Out As It Enters The Caribbean", regarding Tropical Storm Gonzalo which was posted at 3:28pm this day. Perhaps the new administration is going to cover weather related issues as well, including weekend coverage of such matters? We can only hope. Mike was available 24/7 with information.

That may be but I'm sure he will quickly tire of a bunch of people all asking the same questions.

Mike won't come back unless and until many people directly and personally convince him to.

By far, not in the class of Mr. Mike's MUCH NEEDED analysis.....but better than silence.

Levi Cowan's blog Tropical Tidbits has a daily video update and includes very detailed analysis of all hurricanes. He talks about the Invest 92L tropical wave on the current video, from 6.52 onwards. He mentions that the model is predicting the wave hits Hispaniola, but stresses that it is too early to work out any real ideas on track.

Another good forecaster is stormcarib.com
I guess we have to get forecasts from a few different sources and go with whoever is the most accurate. So far, I have found that NHC and stormcarib are quite good.

NOAA/NHC is usually good. They don't seem to paying much attention to the latest. Maybe they were distracted by the other two active storms.

This is it for now, it seems.

If Mike were here he would be offering advice on potential steering tracks for 92L based on the surrounding air mass influences. That's the type of advance information I am going to miss.

It is very clear we need to be watching this one. Sometimes Mike was able to predict how close it would come long before others were able to do so; And which part of the island would get hit the hardest.
