A simple Tropical Storm that far away will not bother the operations of a airport.
This actual Storm hides the danger of huge water amounts to come down over certain areas of the country, dangerous for mud slides, flooding, rivers going over the top etc, but at the far East at PUJ I do not think those waters could be enough to bother the airport operations, as lon as the streets are good for transfer vehicles to drive you there/pick you up there.
Some years ago a 1st of May is the only time I remember in my 30 years here, that the PUJ airport had t shut down due WATER, when it rained down due a Vaguada for many many hours straight down, flooding everything there.
But Tropical Storms so far never provoked that from such a distance.
Have a safe one.
Thanks! Left my Sequoia at the airport. Should be good as long as I can walk to it with only a backpack.

And this DR Achilles' heel over the last 5-6 years: flooding. Since the flash flooding that happened last 4th of Nov in SDQ, we Dominicans are more concerned on this than ever. After decades of lack of drainage and proper planning in places like SDQ (even in highrise spots), PUJ and in the North Coast, we are paying a high cost with millions of pesos in damages and lost lives.

I remember that flash flooding in SD.

Just to give an idea what we are talking about when talking "Just a Tropical Storm",
here a shot with the Size of the Tropical Storm Force Windfield as of 11PM tonight.
Those TS Force Winds are all blowing on the Eastern Sides of the storm, so while it can be expected to do landfall around Azua, those TS Winds can reach East as far as the Hato Mayor Region, and we all know that once over land such thing can easily jump some long miles to either side, so this cold reach as far East as the DR goes.
It is around double the size of all neighbours Island Puerto Rico, so please don't feel safe because a forecast line is shown in a "good" distance from your home.
There will sadly be many people on this beautiful Island be in for a wild ride.
While it passes, please just stay home, don't be out to take photos or such, most people who get hurt during such nature power times are not the smartest, as they get hurt or die because they did not follow not even the simplest rules of precaution or common sense.
Stay safely at home or a safe home of a friend, enjoy some good food and drinks and once it passed and streets and bridges look safe again to use, you can be out and hurry to work again.

yes, you are correct.
It is now shown more west.
Pay attention to the size of the wind field, those TS Force winds reach out quiet a distance to the east specially.
Great, we shut down the country for two days for a storm that will miss us completely and hit Puerto Rico

From today's NYTimes...........

Parts of Hispaniola were expected to receive between five and 10 inches of rain, with isolated totals up to 15 inches. Farther east, Puerto Rico could receive up to six inches of rain through the middle of the week, the Hurricane Center said. This amount of heavy rainfall may produce areas of flash and urban flooding as well as river rises and mudslides.

They obviously got the timing wrong, at least for the north coast..., I guess it's very difficult to organize closures based on provinces, that would be too complicated...!

The government, when faced with a storm of this potential and size isn't worried about a few disgruntled expats in Sosua. It certainly is an inconvenience but suck it up.

Franklin arrived and he ain't pretty.
He gained a few more notches of power over night and the good news is that he is getting gears in, riding 10mphr forward straight North.
By this evening it should be gone with its Center, but very likely will keep it raining down as a tail for a longer while in some areas.
Here at my place on the Ranch up the hill over Punta Cana, it also rained all night long very very hard. nothing gets flooded up here, as we do not cement every square inch, so far all water gets easy away into the grounds. a few small puddles are all that is.
rain almost stopped 15 minutes ago, but is already back on steadily strong, zero wind up here.
If Franklin continues its Northward Path, then the wide windfield of TS Force will not reach my cattle. It will come very close, but stay out.
The Punta Cana Region is also out of the reach of the winds, but for that the heaviest rain parts are on the far East of the storm and will cntinue to come down here in the Altagracia Province. Punta Cana itself has no danger zones for water, ony inconveniences due the many constructions by idiots instead of ingenieurs, so some streets will be flooded, but who gives a F.? people are here not in danger, only the stupids who leave their hmes to drive around without sense or look for open useless businesses. such people are the danger to themself, producing car accidents or drowning their vehicle somewhere, lol.
Big part of my family is actually at our house in Cruce de Guayacanes/Santiago, there they are in for the real ride of the day, as Franklin's path shows to move right over there. for our house there, not built by myself, I am not so sure that nothing will get flooded, but at least it is built safe and so are the rest of the family's houses there in the same Pueblo.
Today is a full rainy day, the same for tonight, tomorrow it then will hopefully show some parts with less thick cloud cover, as by then I may need some refueling load from my solar panels. I wanna see that we can pass such stormy with those several cloudy days without the use of the Generator to bring some extra load on the batteries. these Franklin conditions are perfect Test Conditions for me, as all that Solar stuff is new to me, it's ben last fall that we built the first of 3 systems here, always observing and learning, so after a while all will be perfectly arranged and ready even for long times without sunlight, while running all appliances in the house. we have on purpose all running, as i wanna see to where we can reach that way. 2 big fridges, freezer compartments, one big freezer, outside light bulps all around, 3 TVs and a playstation(that PS5 is a real sucker for electricity, never thought of that until I checked my appliances one by one for their Real Life Consumption, lol).
Stay home and safe everyone.
A lazy day at home without the need to go anywhere, is not that bad of a thing to happen.
