POP mathematics

For six minutes ride!

OMG

Three times more expensive than in Manhattan...

But of course that's the fiction -- that it's six (or seven) minutes from POP to Sosua. Nonsense! Even under the best conditions no one can do it from the lot at the airport to their hotel in El Batey under twelve minutes. So that makes it only one-and-a-half times as expensive as Manhattan. And that's not bad considering that the gas costs more than twice as much in the DR as it does in NY-NY.

I am living here now...the current taxi rate from POP to Cabarete is $35.00

I am flying to POP with my parents and need to get a transfer to Lifestyle Beach Resort and Spa in Cofresi and then back to the airport. Anyone has any suggestions?
What about excursions later on? Would like to go to the Waterfalls, Rum and Tobacco factories, Amber museum. Other sightseeing suggestions? Thank you!!

Can anyone tell me what I should expect to pay for a cab from POP to Rio San Juan? Thanks!

From what I've read of the most recent visits to POP, the rates have gone up about ten dollars, at least to Playa Dorada. The last report was that they were charging $35.

From POP airport to:

Cabarete - US$30
Cabrera - US$110
Costambar - US$40
Sosua - US$20
Puerto Plata - US$30
Luperon - US$80
Playa Dorada - US$25
Rio San Juan - US$45

There are 2 huge signs put where they can be easily seen by people leaving the terminal after passing through Customs. Listed are all the places in the country a traveler arriving in Puerto Plata airport might want to go.

catch a public taxi (pop to sousa)....then in sousa catch the (sousa to rio san juan) public taxi....should be able to buy the front seat for yourself for
100 pesos so 200 total ... or if you do mind squeezing in 30 pesos , 60 pesos total...

No, the taxi sindico does not allow publicos to pick up inside the airport, just drop off. You have to go out to the turistica to catch a publico.

As with all other resorts, there is a "taxi mafia" in Cofres?. As a matter of fact, it is the same syndicate that works in the Playa Dorada. Figure at least $20.00 one way and it might be more.
