....and I couldn't care less. Me. My pocket. My deal. Fair is good. Taxi mafia be damned.
Some people are just more parsimonious than others.

Amazing! you guys have given sainthood to D.R. cab drivers.
I would never say that they are all bad, and during my years here when without my own vehicle used taxis on a DAILY basis to and from the office. I did this for several years in the capitol. Yea, I met some really decent guys but the MAJORITY of them, once they heard my gringo accent tried to up the price. This was so normal I started telling them upon entering their cab that I TRAVEL THIS ROUTE EVERY DAY so that they might not do something stupid which resulting in me insisting that they "call dispatch".
I don't know of a les scrupulous bunch of characters (I'm sure many of you can think of a few). I for one think they are sewing what they reaped. (F.Y.I. the Uber drivers are also Dominicans so maybe outside the sindico but still Dominicans).
Is it a union mentality that makes some of you anti Uber? You see them as scabs?
A friend of mine owned a cab company in the capitol always hovering around 100 cars. He told me after the fact that the reason he sold it was because he got a bleeding ulcer because of dealing with the drivers day in and day out.
Uber, clean cars, polite drivers, GPS tracking and you know what you are going to pay up front. and NO I am not an Uber driver or stock holder just a happy customer. ....my 15 cents
Lemme understand this ..
Third world people , living hand to mouth.. .Are USED to a certain stream of REVENUE ( ie. easy money from Gringos). that Taxi guy just like a PUTA is probably supporting a whole extended Family...
Now A company comes along ( invasive outsider) ... and is going to persuade them that 50% of the revenue you got before is ENOUGH .. take it or leave it .
and they just gonna be FINE with that ...?
thats the "business model" we are talking here ?
Really ?
I think i got a better chance of telling my Waste Management Carting Company here in NJ that
"$900 for a 40 yard, is TOO fu**ing much.
Think Imma pay you $350 .. take it or leave it Vinny... and dont you give me none of your Lip."
I See how that flies first ...
It may interest some of you that in NYC, where Uber was the darling, many have shunned it recently -
moving to other services.....
Can't say why.... bad PR or whatever.....
My daughter's crowd (30 yrs old) is my reference
Haha ,
when a Chica is hustling a Dude for $150, for one hour of fun, its AOK... " go make your money girl , see me later"
Right ?
but when a MAN is driving you safely from point a to point b, and is trying to make a living for his Family
,, he is all of a sudden a BAD GUY?
All Airports have this Hustle, its a way of life.. Its their Culture ..
they try for a certain price.. if you speak 20 words of Spanish ,and u know the REAL PRICE , and are carrying Pesos, not jusst $20's $50's and $100's , you WONT have to pay that SUCKER price .. its really that simple.
And if you cant and dont ... you should GET FLEECED, you deserve it ... til you smarten up..
and If you have a Business card in your pocket with a Taxi co you used before and know, you certainly wont have to pay the SUCKER price..
its that simple..
who the F needs UBER ? to "Negotiate" a Better Price ?
Maybe those who no longer have time dealing with people who constantly RIP them off. And this SAFE point A to B commute you mention is typically done in a multi-colored taxi with squealing brakes and parts ready to fall of the undercarriage- and get this, some with no A/C. This is sounding a little like the pleas from the head of the PUTA association, who was complaining Venezuelan girls are taking their biz because they are prettier, straight hair, and give a much better service at a lower price.
