I just called my friend in Samana, 5 miles south of Las Galeras, and he said it is raining, but not real hard.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward for 30 miles from Irene?s core, twice as far as earlier today, and tropical-storm- force winds extend for 185 miles, the center said in its advisory.

The storm may drop 5 to 10 inches (13 to 26 centimeters) of rain across Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, the southeastern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos, with as much as 20 inches in some areas and ?life- threatening flash floods,? the hurricane center said.

Center is now located on 19.25"N and 67.7"W, just measured it on the Google Earth Maps, that's just 60miles NE of my House.
no Tropical Storm winds on this side of the Core on the 60 miles Distance from the Center.
they are reaching far off the Core on the other Side, not here on the SW of the Core.

Thats good news for the north shore/peninsula--- right?

I just same the latest storm track on the Weather Channel. True, the North Coast isn't in the center of the storm track, but it's close. To think the North Coast isn't going to be impacted much, given the latest storm track info, is wishful thinking..........

as for my position in Cabeza de Toro She already passed Her closest Point, walking NW away from Me and not pointing towards the Island. the actual Tracking and the Tracking Forecasts look all very nice in Our Island's Favor, compared to the dangerous Outlook we had last Night.

but be aware,
Irene is a big and powerfull Storm, She IS a Hurricane and growing even further.
such Storm can change it's "Mind" at any Moment and turn to what ever different direction without any forewarning or Forecast about such Move, so stay all nice at home, do some nice cooking, have a Beer or read a Book, invite Neighbours for a BBQ as we just finished our Lunch BBQ on the Veranda here, and Stay SAFE!

Mike says he is feeling nothing and he is 60 miles away from the storm.

If it swings far enough out, it could be minimal impact....

Yes, might be wishful.... but thinking !!!

All is dry in Santo Domingo at 2:20pm after a light rain that came with a strange fog. Cloudy, but some stretches of white clouds. A light breeze. Hard to tell there is a big storm in our neighborhood.

it is rare to come in such close vicinity of a big Storm without any real effects felt.
Our Surface pressure here went down to 999mb as the Bottom max point, but the wind stayed less than we have on a simple windy winterday in late dec/jan/feb. we did not get Rain to speak of, sprinkling is on and off all day long, but not enough to be naimed real Rain. wind is going up and down but not any near any real strength.
as for Punta Cana the Game is over and Irene will be mentioned in my Books as a No Show.

the 2PM Outlook/Forecast is in our Island's Favor, Irene is running now on 19.3"N and 67.1"West as the shown Center, the last 60 minutes hard to spot on the Sat or Radar coverage, Heading WNW which is almost parallel to our Coastline.
She will be very close to Samana later today, there is still a Dangerzone, it could be close enough for strong Winds, a walk over Eastern Samana is not out of the Possibilities, but the actual Outlook soares the Peninsula and would not bring more than 30mphr winds as the Max.
the Storms Powers and also the heaviest Rainloads are all concentrated on it's Side away from Hispaniola.
a walk along our Northshores is the most likely to be Path of Irene, and very likely She will do so in a safe Distance, some minor winds and Rain in not Dangerous Amounts are what I expect for the North, but it is a close call as it was very close over here on the East, too. Turnwise we've been just a few hours away from a History Record Bumm in lil Fishing Town, but as usual we survived and We wish the same for the North.
looks all Fine,
but do not let any Guards down.
we had our stressy Night and morning here on the East, tonight and tomorrow morning will be the stressy Time for the neighbours on the North.

we will stay here and keep the updates running of course, while drying and poolishing the Gladiator to be ready for fishing on Wednesday mornig.

as for the further Path it def looks like a Mayor Hurricane in Vicinity of the SE USA and the Bahamas where Irene should stick around from Thursday til the weekend.
She is big and she is Bad, and She has all Intentions to become more Bad, She's Gal.

Strange here between Sosua and Cabarete, grey skies but not a bit of wind, dead quite, not even the birds are singing today. If the wind picks up a bit, its a lot cooler then normal and you can smell the rain in it.
Went for some late last shopping just before noon, think everybody has taken his precautions because there was not much left in the stores. We did our shopping for the coming day's yesterday but had some last little things to get.

Its my first and I admit I am a little nervous but I took into the good advice given here. Enough potable water available, stocked up the food supply, candles enough, dogs crates are ready to be moved in together with dogs if needed. If not necessary, the better.

Moderate to heavy rain for the past hour in Cabrera. Fairly windy, but nothing major. Can hear the ocean really crashing against the shore a few hundred yards from us but haven't been down to take a look.

~WW and it even looks like the center of circulation is pulling even more to the North....and that's good news for the North of the Isle as well....but the rain will still be a factor..
