Just started raining hard in Bavaro. No wind to speak of though. This happened earlier for a brief time also.

ALL these hurricane reports love to hype it to the hilt. Brings more viewers and higher ratings. Just saw a Miami TV station saying that the DR is being pummeled from Irma. They are all full of ****..........

they should have their local cameras installed and batteries charged, ready for more of their hye.
they sure will name it the most popwerful hit in FL history and throw out billions as numbers of damages done to their Kid-Box-Styled Retirees houses flying away.
it's the USA, it is the way they are.
if they cannot name something in the way that it sounds like a Record or like Devastating, it's not worth to be mentioned or better they squeeze it til it looks and sounds exactly that way.
it shows a media's/society's missing self esteem/unsureness, the need to showup in Record Highs, lol.
i dont wish 'em bad, the opposite, i hope it will curve and pass over water on the EAST of Florida up north and curve out to Sea without touching any Land in the USA. such high populated coastlines are a bi dangerzone, as they would not be able to really evacuate their people, doesn't matter how early a Governor called out a stateof emergency.
they are not able to bring the vast mayority to a safe zone in case Irma touches down.
and the Track of Irma leaves many variables open, nobody knows when it turns and tho nobody knows wher it goes.
it could be a turn to keep it East of Fl wandering N and the NNE to NE.
it could turn a couple hours later and wander right in the middle of FL over Land from S to N.
and it could turn an other few hours later and wander West of FL along their Eastshores towards the NE'ern Gulf coast States and hit anywhere in Alabama, Louisiana, Texas.
the Tracking of Irma for the next days is NOT Set yet but it is just short hours away from arriving over there.
they should stop to freak their own people out more with wrong reporting about the DR and start to report to their people educational reports to tell what to do and where to hide NOW.

Regarding the storm surge, fortunately it is low tide right now, which counter acts the surge somewhat.

US TV and news earlier reported 10 deaths due to Irma. Now it is only 7. I guess 3 were brought back to life.

The wind has been blowing out of the WNW (290) here in Sosua for almost an hour. For those of us in Cabarete and Sosua the storm center (eye) has past.

In Caberete, I guess the storm is about past. The palms are blowing from the south, toward the beach. I think that means we're on the back side. One down, maybe one to go. [/I]

My Family went to Santiago.. good move; I think there is a party.
Most disappointing news reporting just came from Canadian CBCNN , some guy from World Vision in Santo Domingo on the Malecon with normal seas was giving the state of the hurricane in DR. You've got to be kidding!

Anyone around Luperon have any reports?

www.
Finally, Santo Domingo is getting some rain and some little wind gusts, just a little. I back out to the terrace my Rosa de Bayahibe to get some good rain. Had entered the precious plant (with the national flower) to safeguard it from Irma. The rain, though, has been short. Who would know that a Category 5 storm has been so close.

PoP has the wind picking up now for sure.

Mike, Thank you so very much for your keen reporting. I dumped CNN and even CBCNN ; just sensationalism to get higher ratings. They do not report the news ''they make it''. Meanwhile I have been able to take comfort in this thread and the dialogue going on. To all of you who are contributing good work ! An old military kudo ''Bravo Zulu".
I got a video from the POP airport and it was a normal stormy day. My flight to POP tomorrow was cancelled but with this site I gain comfort from the real world.

Power is back now here, cool.
just hear about the headcount of death throu Irma.
honestly, i am positively surprised that it is so low so far,
with the devastation on te Leeward Islands.
it shows how prepared the Islands are for such desasters.
so far 10 dead people, with 8 on St Maarten alone.
i hope we hear soon from jstarebel.

the actual positioning and movement of the Hih Ridge over the Central Atlantic should provide Jose a Easy ride out NW and then catch NE of PR(far out of PR) the NNW steering to stay way away from us.
the chance rise the the Leewards will not get an other hit within just a couple days, i hope the best for them.
the actual tracking shows the easternmost Island on the Path, but the Trend for Jose, by actual current movements, should shift little by little away from them and hopefull miss them on their East in a save distance.
we have to monito Jose, as nothing on such storms is set in stone days ahead of time, but the actual steering currents trend looks good, no need for any panic for our Island and hopefully at the end nothing to catch for the Leewrad Neihbours and Families.
