I too thank Mr. Fisher for holding our hands and guiding us. Great job. Also to everyone that gave on the ground reports and those that had suggestions on preparing. Lot's of good information and team work.
Outside of Sosua. The Atlantic ocean still has good sized swells but is calming down some. Power is still off but amazed that internet and TV still on. We didn't get that much rain and expect some showers perhaps but nothing major. Nice breeze and it feels so good to open up some windows.
I must confess, I am a little disappointed that I, as an individual, was not challenged and not even really inconvenienced. Getting ready for the worse was worse then the event.
I don't know why or how the DR got so lucky when everything pointed to a very bad situation and beyond. We have checked with our friends and workers and everything is fine. That is a big relief. I know that some have lost homes or having a bad time but nothing close to what the projections were indicating.
Thanks again. Time for a second cold one.![]()
That, and big mountain ranges that pushed the storm north.![]()
The Virgin of Highest Grace (Virgen de la Altagracia) isn't called the Protector of the Dominican people for nothing!
Plenty of old ladies across the DR and even abroad prayed to her and asked her to do exactly what happened with Irma.
In this case protecting the DR also meant protecting Haiti. Kill two birds with one stone.
Just saying...
Funny comment that was unintended... but funny
we slipped the noose due to the mountains and the eyewall change ---IMO
less than other did and will experience...
Personally - I am glad it's over.... I was sweating bricks
So which Catholic saint should we blame for sending the storm in the first place?![]()

Mike Fisher, you do yeoman's work with hurricanes.
You not only inform folks about current weather events, you educate them about hurricanes in general.
An excellent book for those intrigued by hurricanes is The Scariest Place on Earth: Eye to Eye with Hurricanes by Dr. David Fisher.

Moderators, I thought this religious nonsense was supposed to be banned from this board?
