For a global recession?
1st quarter of 2023.
For removing the shacks on the beach?
Within a few weeks after Semana Santa.
That sounds very Logical. yes

but , I still dont believe it , and would even make a friendly wager against it becoming reality for even another YEAR , possibly 2 ..

But if they dont act NOW , within Weeks after the DEEDS have literally changed Hands and been recorded ???
then , they will lose Momentum... I think People are Mentally prepared for it now .

But this whole Global craziness could throw ANY timeline out the window .

IMO, one can only bet on what will NOT happen , not what Will happen . if that makes any sense ..
Its like when you were a kid , Counting certain animals to pass the time , as you are driving on the Highway .. " hey kids lets bet if we see a DEER in the next 10 miles ."
Aside from the PORTS ,( which are amazing accomplishments, but they had a Lot of Help there ) .. the North Coast is pretty dysfunctional . Nothing goes according to plan. Not even a Bypass. and lets not forget this is the same Town where they could not even do a Sidewalk , and the Sewers back up every time in Rains .

I would not only bet against it ,, I would think you should ask for 5 to 1 Odds on your bet if you do.
I wouldn't bet against that.

they may raze the beach shacks pronto so the owners can take back their property. However building a hotel, casino, condo or plaza I believe is a super long way off ( as in ten years). I think about all the defunct unoccupied massive hotel complexes on the North coast that have been vacant for 10 years or least long enough to have trees growing out of the bricks and windows. That latest A.I savior of Cab. can be had for 60 bucks a night.

A lot of DR1'ers are forgetting or ignoring the fact that El Presidente made a special trip here and stood in the beach parking lot and took possession of the gifted land right then and there and announced to whomever was willing to listen that the change was happening. I personally believe that once high season is over that the chit will hit the fan, meaning the bulldozers will show up.

I know local people who have operated on the beach for many, many years, am I not allowed to feel bad for them?

Yes of course, but they were and are squatters with no valid title.
We all know, regular Dominican's will not be allowed to frequent the beach, am I not allowed to feel bad them?
No, we don't know that. Your statement is incorrect.
I personally will miss the days I spent at the various bars/restaurants. What am I going to do now...go sit on a towel on the beach for the day...no drinks or food? I doubt it very much. It will be like Playa Alicia...a horrible beach to hang around on.
That might be true, only time will tell.
Sure, the owners have every right. I would sell if I owned that beach also. I read here the land was "donated" to the government, I suppose there are many benefits to that. That said, I still say that gentrification is not good for poorer locals and I am sad for the loss of the beach.
The land donated to the government and accepted by the President of the DR were at each end of the beach. That guarantees public access since the beach is not surrounded by private land.

The beach it self is public property 60 meters from the ocean.

That latest vendor meeting seems to suggest that at least the vendors believe that it is imminent.

Why did they meet if nothing is going to happen?

We don't know that they are squatters and I doubt they are. Presumably, they are either renting from the the owner, or subletting from someone who is renting from the owner. However, once the owner cancels the leases, if they don't vacate, then they will be squatters and have to be evicted.

No "regular Dominicans" will be prevented from going to the beach, however, with no bars, restaurant, chairs and tables in the middle of the beach, many Dominicans will no longer want to go there. Activity will be limited by design to both ends of the beach.

If as you say some are renting from the actual Owners , would it not be the duty of those Owners to INFORM their Tenants that at some point in the near future , that they need to Vacate and their Lease will be Voided , because the Land under them was and IS now DONATED to another owner ?

or does the DR not have any Rules of Law such as this to protect Tenants who are paying Rent in Good faith . ..

I am only asking.

The people the businesses rent from have no valid title and are the squatters renting out land they don't own since the land is either within the public domain or owned by the landowners that just donated the plazas at each end to the government which also guarantees public access.

How would someone, like a business owner on Sosua Beach, paying rent to someone renting out land they don't own be protected anywhere in the world?

They will be able to bring there coolers and spend the day? Will I be able to bring a cooler and spend the day? If front of condos and/or resorts. I would hazard to guess....there will be some hassling from overzealous guards going on...prevented...no, dissuaded, yes. We all know the way things go.

You are most probably right, no one is going to want to spend time on a beach like that.

I seriously doubt any of the businesses are renting from the actual landowners, but I could be wrong .
