Which card do you have? All cards are not the same. Many will charge you a 200 peso ATH fee and won't give you a good exchange rate. Some add in a foreign transaction fee, too.

The bank that issued my ATM card does not charge any foreign fee's, they even return the fees I incurred with the local ATM here

A. Why would I expose myself to such things when right now am able to withdraw plenty of money from my USA located bank using my USA issued ATM Card at local banks ATM's for just $150.00 DOM Pesos fee per withdrawal?

  1. No need for Xoom, they will kill you in feees and exchange
  2. The hell with Remitly - they will FBI the hell out of you with questions
  3. Western Union does an interrogation and hold your money, besides their fees are extremely high also
Today I got just about $2800 USD in local currency in the same fashion mentioned. I'll continue to get money at ATMs as outlined in step 'A" above.
Apparently, you don't read my post very well. Secondly, this is not a recommendation specifically for you. Most banks only allow you to withdraw 20,000 pesos at a time and the daily limit is less than $2800, so you had to make a lot of ATM withdrawals over probably two days(?). Not something MOST people want to do.

I agree with you on Xoom, Remitly, and Ria. I wouldn't recommend any of them due to the fees and exchange rate plus many people complain about how long it takes to get their money.

Western Union didn't hold my money or that of any of my friends. I already said, it wasn't an interrogation. It was more like a fraud check. It was only for that transfer over $1000 and could very well be the last time it's necessary since they already confirmed my details.

Not sure Rick, I tried WU for the same amount and the fees were close to $40.00 USD
My name isn't Rick(?). You see the details right there. A friend of mine sends money here the same way for the same rate. You must be doing something wrong(?).

That's great for YOU. You have a good card then. Not everybody does. Continue doing that way. Once again, my post was for general information and for those that don't have a card as good as yours or are getting ripped off by the other money transfer services.

We opened a Fidelity Account USA and use the Cash Card at the ATM. They reimburse all ATM fees and Wire Transfer fees.

No doubt it's better than Xoom. What was the exchange rate yu received on your last transfer and when?

Tried Western Union just to give it a try - they canceled the transaction within 15 minutes; the joke is on them.

Did you register with W.U. and create a username and password and link your bank account? I think that takes 24 hours before you can make a transfer. Also, you have to select from the listed banks. Schwab and Fidelity have both bank accounts and brokerage accounts. Only the bank accounts will work.

Have been registered for years, bank checking account linked as well; they are a joke!

Well, too bad that, for some reason(?), it doesn't work for YOU. It works just fine for me and the friend who recommended it to me. It's faster than an ATM machine. No joke, but I do go home laughing every time with a wad of fresh Benjamin's in my pocket.

Here's the transfer I just picked up 3 days ago. I put it in late the night of the 30th and picked it up the next afternoon when I went to Janet's. $13.99 transfer fee. Easy peasy.

Of course it doesn't work for me - Ive just stated the same a few times by now; do you have comprehension issues?

Have tried with two linked bank accounts and zero, zilch, nada

The day it does work for me, would gladly post the same experiences, until then, they are dead to me.

Honestly, I've never seen more people with money transfer issues than on this board. Grown men and women that just can't figure out the basics. You can wire money to your bank here from anywhere in the world as long as they participate in SWIFT. The rates are published. WU is horrible for long-term frequent use and besides, it wasn't meant for that frequency of usage and they have a fake FBI wannabe team that will ask you all sorts of BS questions that have nothing to do with anti-money laundering laws. Remittances and wires are carefully watched by the regulatory folks on a global level. There's no mystery there. I was blocked from the schisse WU way back. I use Remitly for years i can send a remittance 100 times per week if I want, I have a 30-60-90-120 limit that I'll never reach. The rates are great. The questions and issues I read re ATMs here on this board are dumbfounding as well. I can't imagine a grown man or woman needing to come to this board or the Everything name your surfer bruh town website for help with the basics of money movements. I have no idea how so many people just simply have no clue.

I used wire transfers until I discovered W.U. A $3000 USD transfer cost. me $45. With W.U., it now costs me $28 USD. I have zero need to send myself money 100 times a week and I doubt anyone else does either. The only questions I was asked were to basically confirm that it was me sending money to myself.

Remitly fees and exchange rates are not that good and many people complain that it takes 4-5 days to get their money. Post the exact exchange rate and fees for a recent transfer, otherwise, it's nothing more than blah, blah, blah.

I have an Ameritrade brokerage account which was bought by Schwab. Some other posters have claimed that Schwab offers free wire transfers, so soon it might cost me NOTHING to send money here.

Jajaja

Someone believes he/she is the center of gravity - LOL

Go count the sand by heaps and then pound on it until exhausted...

Back to the issue:

I can withdraw up to 40K DOM Pesos in local ATMs without any foreign exchange nor any fees from my bank in the USA, the fee's for ATM usage are reimbursed and I can take up to 10K USD daily as per my USA Bank limits.

No need to go back and forth as I can withdraw the money all in one try.

What bank have you linked your WU account with?

I tried BoA and Schwab; both a no go

I bet you have somehow offended the algorithm gods. There really is no way around it. It happened to me around 12 years ago. No rhyme or reason. I was in the USA at the time and did call them up. "It's a business decision." Which of course doesn't mean squat. So like you, they were dead to me. Then, a year or 2 later, presumably after a database flush, I tried again and voila! everything is both hunky and dory, peachy and keen. I've now been with them over 10 years. You'll just end up frustrating yourself if you try to understand it.
